I was under the impression that handguns are simply not allowed in the UK.
As near as matters. (The law prohibits guns with a barrel <30cm, or a total length < 60cm, and all semi-autos except shotguns and .22 rimfire rifles. "Long-barreled revolvers" are therefore still legal. I think there are also special exemptions for vets etc who may need one to put animals down.)

Not that I know of. Probably just brought up to demonstrate how many people he could have shot.
