Wood Body Armor Plates?

By the way, this is still in early testing which means computer sims prior to the ultimate field testing. That means it is not currently available for practical use. Maybe I should link a definition of how the scientific method works, I just assumed most everyone already knew that.
The article first came out 6 years ago. How long does the scientific method take?

I don't know about wood, but it's got to work better than the life preserver ballistic vest, and easier to conceal, although probably a little heavier.

That is interesting, however I’m much more interested in what a “simulated” bullet is for some reason . 🤨

Exactly, this isn't a new article. This has been going on for years since the first announcement. How long does the scientific method take? In modern day, that is often a funding issue. Historically, some developments took decades to get right.

I do like how so many have assumed it was a computer simulated bullet.

Here is some of the simulated bullet testing, from 6 years ago...

Here is a guy who tried to make his own densified wood and did actual ballistic testing...

My guess is that wood armor isn't in our future anytime soon.

Yup, I made the computer generated assumption. Obviously to my chagrin I was narrowly focused in my assessment.

I know a guy that invented lightweight body armor that is being sold to government agencies and over seas. I have talked to him about it but he won't tell me what it is made of. I suspect it may be similar to this only not made by a kid at home. I did see another video of a bulletproof vest that was made of plywood and fiberglass.

Or simply computer generated.

That's what I was thinking when I read this line. In other words it worked in the computer simulation. I have heard a lot of those explanations when talking to engineers & I as a tool and die maker have show them pictures that it doesn't work. LOL

As others pointed out there are other non computer generated simulations so it's just a guess on all of our parts as to what form of simulation was used.

Early Apaches wore leather armor. I found out that it was the hump portion of the buffalo hide that was stretched, greased and held over a fire to harden it. They discarded armor as they moved to the SW but still used buffalo hide shields (deflect arrows and low veolocity bullets). Read about the latter in Henry Lehmann's book.

I don't want to be the guy to test out leather armor.

Yes, I read about that in a book about Texas Rangers and the early days in Texas. Lots of information about Indian raids and warfare. They were very effective against arrows. I don't recall how they stood up to any black powder loads. I think they were able to deflect light loads at a distance.
