One of my shooting partners is a guy who also works for our family business. His 10 year anniversary is coming up and we are considering a firearm to commemorate the day.

He likes a lot of different guns, but there is nothing that really stands out that he needs or just really can't live without.

My buddy currently has an AR-15, a .22 rifle (not sure what model), a Remington 870, a couple of XDM's and a PF9.

Budget is $2500 or under. I am considering a nice 1911 or maybe an more traditional hunting shotgun. I would prefer something fun that I knew would grow in value over time.

Any suggestions?

You could try and track down a Colt Python. I'm surprised that ColtPythonElite didn't suggest it! A nice one should be pretty much guaranteed to go up in value.

Oh, I agree..... You can't beat a Colt Python for an investment. If you look around, you can easily score a NIB model for well under 2500 bucks.

this year, there are anniversary editions of the 1911 floating around, how appropriate! I'm not sure of a pricetag though.

Yeah, send me an application....LOL

I am getting ready to hit my 20 year mark. I am fortunate enough to get a gift. However, it is $250, not $2500.

I notice a distinct lack of revolvers in the list of guns he already owns. I'll second (third?) the suggestion of a Colt, or even a really nice S&W - maybe a K22, or something cool like that. :)

With your price range you have so many options. If the lucky gentleman is hunter or wing shooter a nice rifle or shotgun, either a double or over under, would be a very generous gift.

Why don't you ask him? $2500 will buy a substantial firearm. It would be a shame to invest that much into a firearm if there was another firearm he'd rather have.

If you are unsure simply go to him and say something like: I'm considering buying something special, if you had $2500.00 to spend on a gun, what would you buy? This way you don't give away the surprise and you will be sure to get something he wants. You may even want to flaunt it as your own to make him a little envious. Imagine the surprise on his face when you finally hand it over to him as his very own.

Dang...I just got a $75 watch for my 10 year company anniversary.

I second the Les Baer 1911 idea. Throw in some ammo and a nice holster and mag carrier if budget allows(if he carries or hunts in the woods).

I would save the gun for his retirement or a 25yr anniversary. Get him a nickel watch or something for now. Just my .02

Thanks for the ideas guys. Sorry, no openings at this time :)

We want this to be a surprise so I can't ask. He's too clever to fall for the whole "I'm thinking about buying myself a gun" trick. I'll let everyone know what we pick up. Some of it will depend on what we can find in the store. Unfortunately, we had the gun idea too late to do a lot of internet shopping.

For $2500 I would want a good over and under shotgun. Sure a 1911 would be nice, but there is just something classy about an O/U as a gift. :)

I received an extra percent on employer's 401K contributions and a pin for my 5 years. You must be a generous guy. But times are tough and I am employed by a company that gives me extremely competitive pay along with great benefits, so I'm not complaining. :)

I love my S&W 41 Mag and 44 Mag. I also have a Colt Anaconda in 45LC.

for $2500 you should be able to pick up both Smiths or the Anaconda.

A matched set of nickel revolvers would be very cool.

For me, revolvers are just special.

A matched set of Colt 1911 Gold Cup and a AR-15 would also make a great gift (this would bust your budget).

Unless he is a trap, sporting clays, or bird hunter I don't think he would appreciate the O/U. Just my opinion.

When he goes shooting, what does he do?

Does he hunt? For deer? Ducks? Quail?

Does he plink with his guns or does he compete?

Does he have a wife whom you could consult without letting the cat out of the bag?

It's a wonderfully generous idea; good for you!

Im goin to say a 1911. It is a great pistol and you can get a great deal on one. Then a holster and a few extra mags would make an amazing gift. He must be an amazing employee if you are willing to drop $2500 on a gift for him.

I don't know if you could squeeze it in your budget, but I always thought a SA 1911 and an SA M1A would be a really cool gift set.

Is the lucky employee married? If so, ask his spouse what he has been deaming of.

Personally, the Colt Anaconda in 45 LC is appreciating in value, in your price range and fun to shoot. If he does any wing shooting, a nice over/under would be good, target shooting, maybe an old Hammerli?

A nice Colt M1911 with a custom belt & holster from El Paso Saddlery would make a very special gift and stay well within your budget.
