Would a Glock 20/10mm work as a pig gun?

For a backup while pig hunting, would a Glock 20 have enough power to stop a pig quickly? I have been leary of using less than a .44 mag, but the G20 sure would be a lighter, quicker option, if it would work.

What are some of the most powerful factory 10mm loadings?

Have any of you used one on pigs?

Thanks,
Steve

Cor-Bon 180gr Bonded-Core SP: 1320 fps/696 ft-lbs.

Texas Ammunition 200gr FMJ-FP: 1250 fps/694 ft-lbs.

Winchester 175gr Silvertip HP: 1290 fps/649 ft-lbs.

ProLoad 155gr Gold Dot HP: 1350 fps/627 ft-lbs.

These are all factory-published ballistics, from 5 or 5½" barrels, so YMMV.

Just FYI...

... but the Corbon stats are measured from a 4.6" Glock 20 barrel, not a 5"+ tube.

Better still, for the intended use against hogs, are Double Tap's 10mm loads:

(a) 200gn 10mm XTP-HP @ 1250fps/694fpe;

(b) 200gn 10mm FMJ-FP @ 1270fps/715fpe;

(c) 220gn 10mm Poly FP @ 1125fps/618fpe.

The above DT stats are measured from the G20's 4.6" barrel.

For those using a 5" 10mm pistol or 5" 610 revolver, you can add 25-30fps.

For those using a 6" tube to shoot DT ammo - God help you, because that's the equivalent of Mr. Spock's Phazer. :what:

HTH. :)

Hot dog! That sounds like the ticket. I saw somewhere that Glock produces a 6" hunting barrel for the G20. Is that true? If so, I'm going to have to do it!

DoubleTap Ammo works well on hogs! I would use it as a primary, not secondary weapon on a hog hunt.

Several folks make a 6in barrel for Glock 20.
I got mine from Glock. It cost $135 a few years ago.
Shoots like a factory barrel 'cause it is. :)

Wouldn't hesitate to carry for wild hogs.

If I was going to get a 6" bbl I would get an aftermarket so you could practice with MCNETTS lead loads as well as use it for hunting. Just my 2 cents.

Besides Glock's factory "hunting" barrel, several companies, IIRC, make 6" barrels for the G20. KKM is one. I believe you can also obtain one from BarSto and, possibly, Jarvis.

The aftermarket tubes are tight, match-grade barrels with fully-supported chambers for those who reload. And they're lead-compatible (unlike Glock barrels, at least according to Glock). Bar-Sto barrels do require that they be competently fitted to your pistol. This was the case with my G29. Others may be simple "drop-ins."

The 6" barrels can be used for hunting or for just setting up your G20 as the ulimate "outdoor/wilderness" gun, complete with preban 15rd mag, laser optics, etc. - so much so in fact that it might be made to resemble some sort of intergalactic pistol, with the "extraterrestrial" ballistics to match.

:what:

:cool:

Yep, Ted 'rocked' 'em with the Ten!!!!

If I remember right, it was guns magazine, about 5 or 6 years ago, he was in Africa, he wrote well and whopped pig butt with the G20 10m/m.
Do not know loads...........for the ten, anyway.
