Would it be a stretch to carry a Para double stack?

If I've been carrying a single stack kimber for a long time, how much of a difference would it be to carry a double stack Para?

Usually all I have on is a T-shirt to conceal the kimber.

Would the thicker grip make me print?



Does anyone carry both? (not at the same time)

Sorry, no experience with the Kimber for carry. But I do usually carry a P-12, which is the 3.5" barrel double-stack .45, and don't have any problems with concealment (OWB, t-shirt with an open untucked shirt or a hoodie; in a Coronado vest).

I read a recent article in a gun rag about the double stack Para vs his personal 1911 with thicker grips. He pointed out there's very little difference between the two and IIRC the Para has an aluminum frame so weight is about the same. You may have to adjust your cover garment a bit, but can't imagine how it would be any different than something like a Glock or other double stack.

With my holster, everything behind the magazine catch is outside of my pants.

It should be no thicker or print any more than any number of "high capacity" double-column-magazine autos.

I've carried my P13 in a Bianchi IWB with not much fanfare. It was just about the same size/concealment difficulty as the S&W 4003 that I also carried at the time. Neither was any easier or harder to hide and keep hidden. They were about the same in most all areas of concealment, with the possible exception of the P13 feeling slightly more comforting due to the .45acp.

I have carried a Para Carry 12 frequently in a Bianchi IWB holster, and printing has never been a problem. The weight of all that ammo is, and I usually carry something less now.

I have also carried a P-12, and I don't recall any particular hardship keeping it concealed. I switched back to a full-length single-stack 1911.

The Para double stacks use a very thin grip, and it only adds 1/8" to the width, even though the frame is much wider. Very Glock like feeling however, more of an oval shape, compared to a football shape grip.
