hi all something has crossed my mind as I have searched for 257 Weatherby ammo.I have been looking and the 264 Win Mag has almost identical performance,Bit is cheaper and can fire up to 140 grain bullets. When I get caught up would I be crazy to try and trade my Remington 700 CDL-SF 257 WM for the Remington 700 Sendero-SF in the 264 Winchester Mag

the cdl and sendero are different rifles. if you are looking for a hunting rifle, stick w/ what you have. if you are looking for something to hunt w/ out of a stand or shoot a lot of targets, trade 'er off.

the rifles themselves are different enough i'd say you should just stick w/ what you have. as far as lethality, both will kill a deer just fine at about any range, so you won't be gaining much in lethality by trading out of your 257 roy...

Are you saying you aren't gun poor yet?

And you actually want to trade one for one, without buying an additional one?

:scrutiny:

Dryhimor I will have to Ive been laid off 8 months now :( I just think in the future the 264 Might save me some money for equal performance plus it would also handle 140 grain bullets

IMO get one box of "shells" sight in and go hunting...forget about it (till you get another job)!

If you want an affordable rifle you should have kept one of your 270's.

Sure the 257 WM is a perverbial laser beam, better, faster, etc. I get it but at $70 for 20rnds NO THANKS!

well... this changes everything. it will be cheaper to keep what you have, and just buy a box of ammo until you get back to work... you're going to take a hit when/if you trade the 257 off.

I'd stick with what you've got until you get solidly back on your feet.

Once you get a new rifle, there's the sighting in, practicing, new mount/rings, scope upgrade, sling etc. It's always more expensive than you think. Always some sort of reason to pick up this or that.

Good luck on the job search.

i will definatly keep it this yr to hunt with. What factory ammo would you all suggest to get and use

the 100 grains do shoot best beter than the accubonds i was just concerned if shot at close range

Mr. Roy said himself , that the 257 wetherby was his all around favorite deer getter. If you look at the ballistics of this thing, out to 500 yds, nothing drops less, for regular round rifles, Not even sure a 408 cheytac, 50 cal, or 416 barrett drops less.
But your theory is right, 264 winmag ammo has just got to be cheaper, and if you shoot, say , 10 boxes a year, it may be worth it, if you like to go to the range, and paper punch. but if this is strictly a hunting deal, I don't know if I would do it. the 264 winmag is a very interesting, and underrated round; the peeps who invented it, claimed they did it, to purposely outdo the 7mag, in a smaller action, smaller case, smaller powder amount, etc., and then after 400 yds or so, have better long range ballistics. Well.... they were right, and they succeeded. but the round got off to a bad start, and I think this was a deal were remmy , who first made the round standard, pulled the same crap with this, as they did their fine 6mm remmy round. Plus I think the initial rifle for it, had some probs, so it never caught on like it should have. But in the end, they set out to accomplish beating the 7mag, especially at long range, with a smaller action, and less materials, and they did.
