If she is competent with crafts like you say, yes.
Those Lyman kits are great quality.

.50 or .54??? depends on y'alls personalities :)
With black powder you can load at any reasonable level, light or heavy. Besides the kick is not as harsh as a smokeless powder gun. So bore diameter is less an issue.

Hi. It'll do. Lyman doesn't make junk. There are other flint or percussion kits on Dixie Gunworks' site too. Birchwood-Casey sells a liquid finish called Plum Brown Barrel Finish made specifically for BP firearms.
The calibre is a preference thing mostly, but a .54 cal will have more felt recoil.

Not a bad price, I shop at The Gun Works, in Springfield Oregon. I would check both on shipping.....TOW is not a bad store either.

I tend to lean on .50 caliber for accuracy purposes with a shorter barrel than a rifle. but my .02 for what it's worth. I just bought a Traditions Trapper model in .50, double set triggers, not a bad gun.

It's good to get the other half involved with this hobby!

Just go slow in wood removal and take your time. I like the browning as well as it takes glare off of the metal in the sun. I learned to screw stuff together like it's going to be and make sure the wood is trimmed enough, just putting it in doesn't always do it.

Have fun!

Lyman makes a very good quality product, and they stand behind their products. They have been around a good long time, and are a very stable company, so, you can't go wrong with anything they offer.

That's a very nice, sturdy pistol, at a very affordable price as well !!! It's a shame they don't come in 69, 71. or 75 calibers, or I would be looking at picking one up myself !!!

In addition to Dixie Gun Works, (DGW), you may want to take a gander at The Possible Shop, (TPS). They also carry a number of pistol kits, affordably priced, of good manufacture, and, alot of their kits are offered in either flintlock, or caplock versions. (But not all of them.)
