i'm thinking that this would be good for my first handgun, but will sigs newer grips fit this and would the .22 LR made by sig fit this aswell?

The 22 kit should fit, but the grips may not - older SIGs (I think mostly the German made ones) have a different shape to the springs and a different cutout inside the grip - I think those are the ones that have a serial number less than U 583 575 according to the Nill Griffe website.

if you're really taken with the new grip panels, you can

1. change out the mainspring, mainspring strut and mainspring seat/boot of the old for the new ones
2. you can take a dermel tool to the inside of the new grips and remove enough material to clear the old mainspring
