I have a S&W model 3913 9mm that I believe is very similar to the 4043 .40 cal. I bought it used in very good condition for $340. I am very pleased with it. It's function so far has been perfect.

I have read many posts saying that this line of S&W semi-auto's is one of the most underrated guns around. I agree with that statement.

I'd say that the price and model that you are looking at is worth it based on it's description and price.

Also, welcome to THR.

I had a 4046 which is the all steel version of the same pistol. It was dead solid reliable, and had a pretty good DAO trigger. I only sold it because it turned out that DAO isn't my cup o' joe.

I own the 4013TSW ...

... it use to jam a lot until I changed the springs and it's been flawless since then.

They`re great guns. Very solid and reliable. I had a 4053 (compact single stack cousin of the 4043). The DAO trigger is a lot like a Kahr (except hammer fired). Racking the slide cocks the hammer half way so you only have to cock the last half with the trigger. That yields a nice short/smooth DAO trigger pull. I liked the trigger a lot but when I ordered my 4053 (Fla. police trade in) I never realized that particular model is built on an alloy version of the large .45/10mm sized frame! If I`d known that I would have bought a .45 in the first place. It was reliable and very accurate ,although it printed the 155/165gr. ammo I prefer about 3" low at 25yds. It came with night sights so getting a new height front sight would have been fairly expensive. It was cheaper/easier to switch to 180gr. which shot closer to POA. I carried it for quite a while and finally traded it on a Kahr P40 so I could have the same smooth DAO trigger in a smaller/lighter package. I still have a 5" S&W 1006 (it`s a keeper!). Again, reliable, accurate the only thing I don`t like about the big 10 is the slide mounted safety/decocker but that`s a personal preference. I`ve been thinking of picking up a 4043 myself while they`re so cheap. Marcus
