Hey all. I'm looking to see if I can put a folding stock on an SKS with minimal parts replacement. I have this neat idea to make an SKS in a certain configuration I want to try, and a folding stock would just be gravy.
I'm trying to play the 10 parts or less game.
So far I count 9 import parts:
1) receiver, 2) barrel, 3) bolt, 4) bolt carrier, 5) gas piston, 6) trigger housing, 7) trigger, 8) hammer, 9) disconnector
I have resigned myself to using a USA made magazine as that's one of the easiest ways to accomplish this. Does it have to be fixed or can it be detachable? 10 rounds is just fine for what I want to do with it, but I may have to settle on 5 rounders.
The original furniture was quite decrepit and I've since discarded it as it was in very poor shape, including the stock and handguard. I'll be replacing it with an American after market set of parts.
I have a bayonet lug but no bayonet nor do I want a bayonet, ditto for grenade launchers, muzzle brakes, etc. etc.
Right now all the rifle basically is are those 9 components I have listed having discarded the magazine and subsequently its follower and floorplate. It's in pieces on the floor waiting for me to put it back together.
Assuming I get all American made parts from here on end, should I be okay to put a folding stock on it? I am just lazy and don't want to go through the gosh awful pain of dinging out that little pin so I can replace the gas piston.
I do have one other option: I am planning on getting an aftermarket sight anyway, so I can remove the rear sight if I need to.
Edit: Wait I just remember replacing the gas piston is super easy... I need to not post crap on the internet when I am tired.
