i have never owned an ak, or an sks. ive only owned ar15's (and one mini14)

my brother owns an sks, and until recently there was an ak in the family as well.

from my experience shooting those, the sks was definitly more accurate, but i dont think we ever had a group like that at 100yds.

My dad's Mini-14 will only group into 5 inches at 100 yards, that's only for the first 10 or so shot's, after that, the barrel heats up, opens up to about 7inches. My SKS will kick the Mini's ass all day long.:)

One more thing about the Yugo, I'm getting 2500 fps out of my 122 gr FMJ's, because the grenade launcher is like having 4 inches of extra barrel.:)

I challenge anyone to do this with an AK-47, ain't gonna happen.

i wouldnt say it cant be done with an ak, ive heard some say they can get 2moa out of them (although ive never seen one get even close to that firsthand)

i do know of the ones ive fired, the sks was clearly more accurate than the ak.

the sks my brother has is about 15 years old, and has the ak magazine. the ak was a russian, but i dont know how old it was.

and ya, my mini 14 wouldnt shoot with my brothers sks either, it was more on par with the ak we had.

i traded it and about 300 bux for a colt match target rifle back in '98 and until then the sks owned the braggin rights in our family, at least out of the semiautos.

I'm having a little trouble believing it. I met a guy with a Norinco awhile back, his couldn't hit anything at 100 yards. He was using Golden Bear ammo. Oh he hit paper, just not commonly or with any decent grouping (he had one hit high then one hit low). Gave me five shots and I didn't do any better.

Is there any sort of secret to SKS aiming? He swore the way to do it was with lining up the front sight with the rear so that everything appeared level. Then aim with the top of the sight just below the intended target.
 
Now see if you can do THREE inches, if you can do that, you've essentially mastered the SKS as they claim 3 inches is the best it can do.

I exceeded your challenge back when I owned a WASR10. Ha, happened. Oh wait, does that count? The WASR10 is an AKM not an AK-47... ;)
 
Kind of blued that is a Yugo SKS you can tell by the grenade launcher on the front and that is very nice shooting!
 
aw great, now the prices at gunbroker for sks gonna go up. just kidding man but dam some nice groups you guys, now gotta check my friend if he still has the chinese norinco for $150, crossing fingers
 
Redneck and Welen good shooting. My eyes won't let me shoot like that w/o a scope. I'm fix'n a yugo up and can't wait to shoot it.

that is by far the best grouping of the admittedly limited #'s of SKS rifles I've ever seen shoot. about a dozen I would say.
I've never seen a pinned barrel Chinese that would even stay on the paper at that range consistently.

Yes – on bags on a bench I’ve had the same results with my Yugo. The 10 round magazine, weight, and quality/design make it an enjoyable and accurate range gun.

Great shooting and well done!

Nope, nope...this simply won't do. You can't cover the whole group with a single dime so it's absolutely ill-suited for defensive purposes. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Can you believe that some people won't buy Ruger Minis because they shoot like this? Good Lord, people! You're only out to keep the barbarians from crossing the mote....not to snipe them at the mote 500 yards away! More than adequate to secure the homestead, friend. Well done. Keep your head where it's at. :cool:
 
The Yugo SKS has repeatedly demonstrated very good accuracy for me. Mine will do five rounds of the old nasty Wolf black box into or around 2 MOA consistently, with Tech Sights. I've seen several other Yugos that have exhibited similar accuracy. It is quite impressive. Lots of bang for buck in those Yugos. My older Russian was similarly accurate and not nearly as rough around the edges. I made the mistake of selling it and am definitely not repeating that mistake with my current Yugo. If there is a better truck/trunk rifle existent, I have yet to see it.
 
I ordered the tech sight (TS200) /w .047 dia front post. I can't stand the stock iron sights. I'll report back here when it gets dialed in and shot at 100 yards ;)
 
Oh sure, but you didn't mention you had the secret bayonet group tightening tool attached.

That's not a bayonet, it's a field expedient mono-pod. ;)

I've got several yugos, and most will do as good as what you posted if I do my part. Nice shooting.
 
No. Further Testing Required.

Well, with all due respect, I'm having my doubts. :scrutiny:

The only way to resolve those doubts would be for you to send the SKS to me so I can scientifically corroborate your findings.

Such testing on my part would likely take several years, since it'd have to be done over various conditions with a huge expenditure of ammo :what:in all available varieties.

Seriously, that's a wicked fine group. Guard that one with your life, it's a KEEPER. :D
 
K, my tech sight, and fine front post are coming in the mail tomorrow :) BTW, my gun is a 1978 norinco 20", with only about 100 rounds through it.
 
I still haven't received an answer -- seated, standing, prone or bench?

As I say, I certainly believe the grouping, and can match it with my Romanian. But doing that offhand, standing would be quite a feat. Bench? Not so tough at all.
 
What do you guys think about the Tapco furniture? I'm toying around with picking up a beater and replacing stock... (assuming any kind of accuracy, obviously...) It looks pretty sharp, how does it run?
