Would You Buy This Gun? [10mm Patrol Carbine]

To be a really "mature" system, worth putting out for sale, you'd need the gun to really fit the cartridge. I'd expect the bolt travel and ejection port to really fit the cartridge. That would be a super fast-working, light, compact action, and probably worth a look.

This.

If you can find a way to scale down the action, it would be nifty, and lightning fast. Recoil would probably be a little stiffer, but you can't deny that with shorter bolt travel, your cycling would be lightning quick.

A guy here went to considerable trouble to get a .45 ACP bolt action.
The procurement process was more fun than the shooting.

I would not want a pistol caliber bolt action for plinking or hunting, it has no competition application I can think of, and the cops can get full power rifles and real submachine guns.

An example, sort of, of what I'm talking about can be seen if you study the DeLisle carbine. http://www.prexis.com/sten/delisle.htm

Notice how the barrel was machined with an extension that brought the chamber back nearly 2" to the proper position over the pistol magazine? And how the bolt was modified/shortened to work correctly to chamber such a short round, compared to the original .303 Brit. cartridge?

Now, that's a war-time expedient conversion, and pretty clunky compared to a purpose-built gun designed around the cartridge. (As you would want your 10mm rifle to be.)

Now, it may be possible that a similar chamber extension barrel as the DeLisle used would make the Savage action more workable. Not great, but better than having a 1.25" long cartridge rattling down a 2x+ long action trying to find its way into the chamber.

About the action

The action we'd be using is sized for the 10mm auto, its only a little longer than the 10mm's OAL, cycling would be about as quick as with a bolt action rimfire. From that point, barrel, stock, etc. are all designed and built for the Centimeter, all told it weighs about 4.15 pounds in the synthetic model. We considered the Survival Rifle application as well, the pistol grip can be accessed tool free for storage, and there is enough room to fit a folding knife and or some spare mags in front of the buttpad, also tool-free removal.

Oh, cool! I just saw "Modified Savage Action" and assumed you were talking about the Model 10/110 series.

Which one did you use?
