    NO!
Local range got 10 back in June and were sold by the end of July and all 10 have gone back to Remington for repairs. Still waiting on 4 to come back.

As interesting as the design is, I just don't think so; not until they work the bugs out.

I buy most of my guns used, and $300 is pretty much my price point. For that I have gotten some really nice pistols that function flawlessly.

I actually like the look of them especially the contour of the front of the slide, but the ugly 'R' on the grip that has to go. I would have to pass though, as I don't trust current Remington products. But if I could shoot one extensively and find that it is reliable and fits me I would buy that particular one.

I've also own a Ruger LC9s pro. A great gun, never a jam or failure of any kind through about 500 rounds. I like it a lot.

I bought the R51 because it has a different action and I like the looks/feel of it. I don't intend to ever CC it.....I'm a Glock guy for CC.

I did contact Remington and they are sending me 2 mags. To be clear, the rounds being used were all FMJ factory ammo. I'm a bit frustrated that my R51 doesn't work out of the box as it 100% should, but I'm in this until I get it to work.

Yes, that’s what I said. For 6 months while I wasted time and ammo trying to “wear it in.” It never does.

$298 at Bud's. Got to say I'm tempted.

Less $100 Remington rebate. $198 net.

Before this thread I might have said yes. However it appears that they still aren't "ready for prime time".

    jmace57 et al,

I gave in to temptation at the $298 less $100 rebate and free shipping. Bud's just got my check today. I should get the gun around Thanksgiving (Bud's won't ship until they hold my personal check for 5 days. No complaints as they made that detail clear and I made an informed decision on my payment method.).

    I'll keep everyone posted.

No, the price is low for many reasons, and I am an owner of the R51 for the last 3 years and almost a whole year it was at Remington due to recall.

Well I bought a 2nd gen Sccy for like $200, it has been flawless. Plenty of good reviews in the Gen 2 PT111s. I guess giving it a second chance isn't that risky.

I received 2 magazines from Remington promptly. Both of these magazines have the exact same issue. The first 4-5 rounds load as expected, but the additional rounds (6-7) cause the rounds to nose dive in the magazine. No way everyone else isn't having this issue with the mags. No need to shoot the gun to know the mags cause the same feeding problems as I can't even unload the mags by hand without having the nose dive problem resulting in a jammed round against the mag.

The good news....I shot 150 round loading only 4 rounds in the magazines. Not a single problem and the gun was a joy to shoot. This was with FMJ and hollow points. I am convinced the problem with the R51 2nd version, mine anyway, is 100% the magazines. The fact that they work perfect with only 4 rounds points me toward springs too strong. I'll experiment and see if shortening a spring will get me to the full 7 rounds.

The $178 "after rebate" price at the local Rural King on Friday has just about done me in. At that price it's within "what the hell" territory.

I've wanted to try one all along (as a fan of the Model 51, I know the design is solid, if not the execution in this case). Now it's cheap enough to get purely as a range toy. I'll probably end up with one after this weekend...

Ugh....the plastic ball for an extractor spring is still scaring me off, even at that price. Strangely, I just can't get excited about this gun as a mid-smallish 9mm. If they shrunk it to a .380 like the original, or megasized it to an R53 in .45, I would be back on board with this platform.

Remington needs to reengineer the locking block a bit better. The first design was flat on the bottom and set back just enough where the loaded top round didnt move forward when inserting the magazine like the currant model. Magazines need some redesign work also stopping the nose dive problem and the live round ejection issue. My gun runs fine unless i load one in the chamber and top off magazine. Then it will sometimes hang up on the top round. If you can get a new gun for $179.00 then thats worth a try. If anything you have a great training pistol for malfunction drills. I love the gun but they have to run better than they are for carry. Why the engineers cant see this is beyond me.

So all 4 of my mags, the two original and the two Remington sent me to fix the 'nose down' issue have the exact same issue. They all worked fine with only 4 rounds loaded, but failed if 5-7 were loaded. I disassembled each magazine and cut out coils until the mag would reliably load and feed 6 rounds. This took 2-3 coils removed (that's a lot!) on each magazine. I didn't cut more because I was planning for some normal spring loss and I don't need the 7th round at the range anyway.

BUT NOW MY R51 WORKS!!!!! Well worth the $250 net I have in the gun.

You might want to let Remington know about their magazines running better with less strength. Would be nice if wolfe made a mag spring for them that worked.

Suggestion from left field. Before cutting a spring try shortening the follower. I did that and mine runs like a scalded ape now.

Um... what is a scalded ape?

Unfortunately... I don't think I'll be getting one after all, despite the rebate, etc. I just cant justify ANOTHER carry gun... I already carry a Shield .45, and it is ironically smaller in some proportions than the R51... and while it is more expensive... I already have it. Oh well. I would definitely pick one up if I didn't have a carry gun already. A mouse gun is on my list though, because... what if I need something significantly smaller than the Shield (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)
