The company I work for has been bought by a company out of Australia. Now that we are part of their organization I get to see the open positions that are available. There have been some really sweet positions available in Australia and the UK, which also involves a nice big chunk of change for a raise to move there.

My only problem - Anti gun countries. Got me wondering. Would you pass up on a sweet job with awesome pay in another country to keep your ability to RKBA? Or would you pass on this right for a few years to collect the Cha-ching?

I've pretty much decided not to pursue one of these jobs overseas because of the RKBA reason. I just enjoy shooting USPCA, High Power and trap to give it up cold turkey.

What do you think?

I've worked overseas for a few years. The experience was well worth it.

As long as it is temporary go for it.

Every US citizen should experience life in another country. Even living in places like the UK or Germany let alone hell holes like Nigeria or cess pits like Thailand gives one an appreciation for the US that cannot be gained any other way.

Do it for the money...could it be any worse than living in California or Massachusetts?

i don't know about MA- but really, permanent residence in someplace like UK is WAAAAY different from living in a place with huge open forests and borders with full auto states

I was going to ask you to define chunk of change, but no.

You live in Massachusetts and you're worried about moving to an anti-gun country? ;) :uhoh:

You know it's funny cause at this point in life I'm thinking I'd pass on it. I've lived overseas in Japan and the Phillipines when I was younger and in the Navy. Not to mention I've been lucky enough to visit a good part of this world. So for me the thought of living over in another country is mixed for me. Yeah it would be awesome to live in a new place and get the money, but on the other hand I'll be moving away from friends and family (Of course family includes my gun collection :D ) Hummmmm, I'll need to give this some more thought.

OH and Werewolf, I've been to Thailand. Pataya Beach and Bangcock (sp?). While I'll agree with you in regards to Bangcock, Pataya Beach on the other hand was a sailors wet dream. Playboy central. Um, I just wouldn't want to be married and visit there, if ya know what I mean!!!

Depends on why you own guns. If it's like herion and you just have to shoot your guns lest you experience severe withdrawls, then you probably shouldn't pack your bags.

BUT...if it's just for home defense like me, well...probably less of a need for a shotgun if no one else has firearms either. I'd go for the new experience of a foreign land while making MASSIVE BANK!

...but of course, I'd have a taser instead. :D

I think I would do like you did and pass on the opportunity!
My reason is a little different. RKBA asside, I happen to feel very safe right here at home in the good old USA. I think there is alot more then just having the right to protect yourself or family at stake. Little differences in laws and rules and the ways of life could be very hard to get used to and there is always the big question about how the US will deal, TAX WISE, with all your wealth when you decide to return.
As bad as things might seem at times here, I am always glad I live in the USA.

Europe's a small place you could drive to Switzerland on the weekends! Hell they have trains so you don't have to drive! :)

It would be a good experience, give you more money to buy guns when you get home, and it would give you a nifty excuse to learn some unarmed self-defence technique (do it in the country that you end up in for a different perspective than you would get here).

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Depending on the position, somewhere in the one to two year range.

LONG time for my guns to sit dormant in a safe.

Would you temporarily move to an Anti-Gun country if the money was good?
That depends on how temporary is "temporarily" and how good is "good".

If you're talking permanently, no, never. If temporary, how long and how much?

Yes, temporarily. I've got little guys depending on Dad to bring in the dough after all. And once back in the states, I can spend my money on whatever I choose.

Do you have to sell your house to move and then find a new one when you return?

Will the amount you make for a year or two be worth the cost of all this moving?

How will it affect the kids regarding school?

What will you do with your guns when/if you move?

Can you go without shooting for that long?

Are you going to start listening to the Dixie Chicks?

Depends on why you own guns... if it's just for home defense like me, well...probably less of a need for a shotgun if no one else has firearms either.
You're kidding, right?

Please tell me you don't actually believe that.

Not a chance in H e l l I'll start listening to the Dixie Chicks!!! Yeah, I'd guess I'd have to sell the house, move the safe to my parents and then buy something new when I get back. No kids, just a future wife who's all for living overseas for a year if the opportunity presents itself.

Can I live without shooting for one to two years. I'm not sure.

No, unless the job were very temporary (a few months perhaps, and certainly nothing more than half a year). I like shooting too much.

For the people saying "yes":

Could you really go without shooting for months and months on end? I know after a year or so I'd be sick of it. Not to mention the inherent sliminess in not being able to defend yourself effectively and giving your work and money to a foreign, gun-hating populace.
