I have a Glock 26 that has been a safe queen ever since I picked up a Kahr PM9 as my primary carry piece. But, I've always kept the G26 in case I ever have a problem with the Kahr. Lately though I've been thinking of trading it. (As I don't have a lot of spare cash) I came across a deal where I could potentially trade the G26 for a Para P12-45 Limited straight up. I've been reading good things and bad about this particular Para, but mostly good.

Does this seem to be a good trade to you? I'm thinking it is, but want to get some advise from anyone with experience with Paras. What do you think?

Drop a pencil down the barrel and make sure the firing pin works multiple times.
Out of 4 Para's 2 have been Limiteds and both have had issues with the firing pin safety plunger. The other 2 cheaper models have been fine.
The linkage must be very finely tuned, I have had people say that just polishing the parts has caused malfunctions. One of my problem guns was NIB the other an older 4 digit mod.
For me the cost of the mags and weight when loaded would have me keeping the Glock unless you are going even money and would then use the more expensive Para as trade or sale.

As much as I love 1911 style .45's - unless I had big mitts and was willing to gamble, I'd shy away from a Para. They have a legendary reputation for being twitchy, and I can't comfortably get a good combat grip on a BHP double stack 9mm, much less the fatter Para frame. Have you handled it yet?

I would suggest before you make the trade, take it to a range and put 40 rounds each of three kind of ammo through it, then see if you like it. If it passes that test, then give it a try.

I have a para p14 Gun Rights model. and I could not be happier with it. It functions flawless, looks great, feels great, and is accurate.

I've shot our school safety officer's Limited. He uses his in IPSC, although he carries a Smith 908. I didn't have a long time with it, but it didn't impressed me. The gun was OK, nothing special. I also own and sometimes carry a 26. I prefer it over the Para. They're two different breeds of cat. If I shot competitively, my preference might change.

If you don't plan to use the G26 there's no reason to not consider trading it. Personally, I wouldn't trade it for the Para since I'm in the group of people who don't have favorable feelings toward the Para 12-45. The G26 is one of Glock's most popular models and there doesn't appear to be a lot of nice, used G26s on the market these days.

I agree with Weedmonk--why keep a gun that you don't like?

While I have had experience with the P-12 and found it lacking, you may not.
