Sorry, couldn't do the obligatory gun in my lap picture.

Stopped by my LGS today and they had this Marlin 336w for under $500. Came with a old box of ammo as well.
Stopped at Scheels on the way home and bought 6 more boxes and a ammo can.
Now I need to find a low power scope and rings.

You may want to look at the 1-4x24 VLOPs with the 30mm tube (and perhaps an integral red dot). I put one on my Contender 30-30 carbine and it seems to work well.

Remlin? Ruglin? I will say that I've examined several of the Ruger-made Marlins recently, and they've all looked very good The Remington made Marlins, a bit rough.

My 336W is a JM-marked Marlin I picked up, used and unfired, for $350 just a few years back, and even though it was a later production rifle from Marlin, the fit and finish is excellent.

Personally (and I am a huge Winchester fan) I think the 336 is an overall better rifle than the Model 94.

I highly recommend Skinner sights.

In 2024 that's probably a fair price, but that rifle probably sold new for $175-$225 depending in when it was made. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around what they sell for anymore.

By modern standards Marlin Lever guns aren't really light. Every scoped bolt rifle I own weighs less than an un-scoped Marlin 30-30 and only a touch heavier than an un-scoped Winchester 94. With that in mind you need to think about the weight of any scope and mounts you buy. It's easy to add another 2 lbs to the package.

If you can make a peep sight work for you they add almost no weight and are surprisingly accurate. A 1-4X20 scope would be my pick though. Most of them are 8-9 ounces and some of the lighter mounts are only around 2 oz. The 1-4X's on a 30mm tube are HEAVY, around 18 oz. for most.

The weight is the reason I chose it over the two lighter Winchester 94 guns the shop had. Weight helps with recoil mitigation. Especially when your old
Well, it was about a $100 cheaper as well. Burris Hunter 1.5-4x32 is the scope I choose.
