I picked up a new CZ 452 in 17HMR yesterday (traded in a pair of Uberti six shooters I never shoot).

Got to shoot it today and all I can say is WOW. I've had the good luck to shoot a few high end 22 LR rifles but this little 17 beats them hands down right outta the box.

I think I have a 17 HMR addicition growing :)

Welcome to the club. Mine is a Savage thumbhole with a Sweet Seventeen scope. Super accurate when I do my part. Can shoot all day for relatively little money, and it's total fun.

Congrats. I've converted quite a few people into 17HMR.

It's like CZ's. Once you get one, you can't help but falling in love. You have a CZ AND 17HMR...winning conbination.

A buddy at work bought a Savage in .17 HMR. We took it out and zeroed it. Very impressive. Popping clay targets (stationary ;)) at 100 yards offhand was childs play.

Rancho - I can hardly wait. I've got a feeling this thing is my go-to squirrel rifle.

The 17 HMR destroys other rimfires at 100 yards.

There are a lot of dedicated 22 shooters who are hesitant to give the HMR any credit at all. But the proof is in the pudding. Anyone who shoots the HMR with the right ammo will know right away what it's all about.

i've had a cz452 17hmr varmit for 6 years, along with a Taurus Model 72 17hmr stainless. the taurus carbine is a blast & the cz speaks for itself.
the 72 is discontinued in 17hmr, but looks like this:

Why should I go 17 HMR? And if i do, what rifle should I buy? And if I do, how much for 50 rounds of 17 HRM?

@ TEC

The .17 hmr has a reputation for having a laser-like trajectory. It has more punch than a .22, and arguably better for small game than a .22 mag (the advantages are more significant past 100 yrds.) Its been a widely accepted rimfire cartridge with many good ammo options out there, it runs somewhere between $12-15/50 at the Walmart I think.

I got a452 american in 17 HMR a couple weeks ago. It's a nice little gun. The wood isn't as nice as some others I've seen, but it's not too bad

I think with current ammo prices it is a pretty good deal, but I wasn't impressed with the price of it when the round first came out. Back then .223 was a LOT cheaper, before people started hoarding it, so that was the preferred varmint round. Now my .223 sits unused. The other downside is that the wind seems to effect .17HMR a bit. It definitely has better range and power than a hot .22lr though I am still a .22 shooter myself.

if you like the 17hmr, then you really better not try the 17mach 2, which can also fire the 17 aguila round!!!
a hmr, zero'd at 100 m, will drop 3 inches at 150 and 8 inches at 200, and is faster at 100 yds, than a 22 mag is at the muzzle. it also has about 1/2 the wind effect of the 22's, simply becuase of speed.
And speed has changed;due to better powder mixes and better bbls. a good 22 inch bbl, well made, will get you over 2600 fps, and some dudes are approaching 2700 fps, from the muzzle. that is 30.06
speeds.

The Aguila 17 is nice, but more than double the price of their Super Max .22lr round. I really like that round and I don't think it gives up that much to the .17 when you take the price difference into account.
