Today in honor of Father's Day, my trap club held a fun shoot at the club. We shot some games like protection, follow-the-leader, quail walk, and wobble.

Not just any wobble but 20, 23, and 27 yd wobble with our normal trap guns. (The long time regulars are too macho for 16 yd wobble! (Big smile)) This was my first time shooting wobble. I was on post 1 for the 20 yard and lost the first three, ran the next 17 (including a ground hugger that I am convinced was using radar to follow the contour) dropped two and dusted the last three. I was happy. Unfortunately some of the folks, ran 25 on the 20 yd line. Hence the increased distances. We were all humbled by the 27 yd shots. Figuring out the lead for a rocket/woodcock at that distance was tough. The winner on that round shot an 18.

I had a great time as did the rest of the folks there. We are thinking of doing this more often.

Wobble?

I'm glad you claified that. I thought you saw a nice chick walking along. :D

Now, for us old geezers, what is a wobble, as opposed to regulars. :scrutiny:

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down!

For those of you that remember the Fisher-Price Weebles.....

Wobble Trap is trap thrown from a standard trap that allows for non-ATA comforming birds. The targets from the wobble can be very low to very high rather than the "normal" birds (see http://www.remington.com/whatsnew/trap/arc.htm for a description of what are legal targets.) There are still the hard lefts from 1 and the hard rights from 5, but it is still fun.

Think of it as "sporting-clay like tagets" from a normal trap house.

^^ what he said. Wobble trap is just like regular trap but the vertical angle varies as well as the horizontal angle. I've shot it a few times and it's a lot of fun. I didn't find it all that more difficult than regular trap (although I only shoot from the 16 yard line), but it's definitely more interresting after you've shot a couple rounds of regular trap. I haven't talked to anyone whose tried it who didn't think it was a lot of fun.

Ah,wobble....

For those who didn't click the link, wobble is shot using a trap mounted on an oscillating plate. The bird can get launched at any point in the cycle, so the angles vary much more. The fun factor is rather high. It also helps us work on concentration.

One variant, besides the handicap versions listed by 00 guy, is moving the voice mikes and stations to random places.

PGC's wobble can throw doubles. One employee there likes Wobble doubles from the 27 yard line, low gun. Nobody has run that yet.

I didn't think you could shoot wobble from the 16yrd line because of the trap house. I thought 18-19yrd was standard.

To clarify it for people who were at the last SW PA shoot. Regular trap is like Legionaire throwing for you and wobble is like Chris throwing for you  .

Doubles wobble from the 27? :what:

No surprise nobody's run that.

The club i shoot at on tuesday's has a wobble trap. Ohhhhhh fun, and very good for regular trap, forces you to pay attention. :what:
so, i found out last week, that you can load two. if you miss with first, you can go after it with 2nd, or go after a bigger piece of the hit you got (if you didn't dust it) with the 2nd. talk about improving concentration.
Best part was i was out there with my father in law's (he's passed) old old old Winchester Model 12 pump (first time ever shooting it). All these guys with fancy O/U's (ok, usually me too  ) and i'm hammering the 2nd part of the broken bird with this old pump
fun!!!!

Wobble rocks. (and rolls ;)

Brian, some of the folks I shoot with do that, "Full use of the gun" is the term. I don't do it that much myself.

Never underestimate the fun factor of a pump. Or its utility in the clay sports.

Update
took the new wife out shooting her new gun. (only the 2nd time she's ever shot and 1st time with her new gun).
regular trap. 14, 13, 9 (eerrk), 13
then, we want to shoot one last round with my buddy (who's getting tired, you can tell)
and we say "can we shoot wobbles?"
so, he changes the machine.
wife shoots a 12 on wobbles. (single shot, didn't want to confuse her this early, too many things.)
including some of those nasty low ones.

every time she's blowing one up, I"m turning to my friend (who's wife is an anti :fire: ) and going "that's my wife" boom
Sweet
a fun time
she's hooked
bad.
