my dad and did some pattern tests today,i was sure the winchester super X
00buck would pattern better than remmington 00buck
boy was i wrong
i shot 1 round of each in my pardner pump remington buck patterned ALLOT better in the pardner
dad did the same with his highstandard with the same result!
lol now i've got 13 boxs of super X wondering......what i should do with it
the super X did not pattern awfull or anything but the remington was very impresive!
then we shot some clay pigons had a blast!i forgot how much fun it is to shot clay pigons!all in all had a great time and learned something!

Spent time with your dad, had fun, and learned something.
That's a good day!

What to do

13 boxes of Super X, time, father, shotgun, brown bag lunch. Enjoy your dad while he is around. I lost mine this year. ;)

Rshooter i'm very sorry to hear that.i had a great time shooting those clay pigons but i think dad had a better time
its been along time since i seen dad having that much fun
i think i enjoyed seeing him having fun more than anything
when i was a kid every day after school dad and i shot a round of clay pigons
we had some good times, now i'm married with my own family dad has since divorced mom
it's funny we would shoot 2 or three boxes of shells no matter how many hit or misses we had if we ended our round on a hit we were happy infact we may have stoped more than once with 3 shells still in the box just to have ended on a hit!

Winchester's shotshells have not really impressed me, especially dollar-for-dollar, vs. Remington's. That holds true for the cheapest ones, as well as the match-grade AA and STS shells. I've only really messed with clay and bird shells, though

The cheap bulk Winchesters are often not even sized right, whereas the cheap bulk Remingtons pattern well and work fine for club competition, and the cheap Remington hulls can be reloaded many times, too.

What to do with the Winchester buckshot? Just put it back and hang onto it. A shotgun may come along that patterns it really well- just bcause one or two guns don't like it doesn't mean none of them will.

Or a time may come when tight patterns are not that critical to you. I keep some S&B 00 put back in case there's ever a 'to whom it may concern' situation that develops here, and that's consistently the most open-patterning buckshot I have ever seen.

Then, you could always shoot it up in practice and replace it with something better... your call.

Stay Safe,

If you think the Remington was good try some of the Federal Flite Control Buckshot. It shoots the best patterns over a wider range on shotguns than any other buckshot.

Your post leaves many, many questions unanswered. First of all, one or two shots doesn't prove anything as far as patterns go. Second, you tell us nothing at all about your methods. What was the distance? Did you shoot offhand or from a rest? How do we know you didn't flinch and/or jerk the trigger? How many different chokes did you try? How big was the target paper? Did you draw a circle and then shoot at it, or did you shoot first and then draw a circle? How did you evaluate the pattern, i.e. what do you consider good or bad and why?

I'm not trying to be critical, but as someone who has patterned thousands of rounds of shotshells, I feel qualified to pass judgement on your methods (or lack thereof). And, of course, any conclusions are only as valid as the methods and procedures from which they are derived.

pete409 your right i left out allot of details sorry i'll clear that up
both dad's and my shotgun have 18.5 cylinderbore barrels on them
did not draw a circle we put a neon red dot on the center of the cardboard
the cardboard was hmmm i'd say 2x2 foot,we wrere at 13 yards
winchester had about a 15 inch patter with NOUTHING in the center on both shot guns, remington had a 10 inch pattern with pellets everywhere in that 10 inch pattern

i think i'll use the superX in a mossburg dad has with a full choke a kill some bowling pins for fun!

ps:we were shoting offhand

That is why I say you have to pattern several loads. I discovered the same thing. My Mossy patterns Remington standard OO buck 2.75" shell much better than the Winchester loading. This was also my experience with an 870 I used to have.

You're not kidding! The Federal 00 buck FliteControl stuff patterned 3 inches at 10 yards in my Mossberg 500, versus 10 inches for the Winchester Super-X.
