I plan to move to the Corvallis area in the next couple of months. Our local club is selling WSP for $27 per 1000 and I'm curious to know whether I can get comparable prices in the Corvallis/Albany area or whether I should stock up before we move.

Welcome to Oregon! Normally we're against the flood of Californians moving north, but we can make an exception for a fellow High Roader...;)

I think Bi-Mart is quite a bit higher on primers, and tend to mainly carry CCI, at $3.49 per hundred. They rarely go on sale, but are sometimes 10% off. Overall, Bi-Mart is one of the better local sources for reloading components.

I'm not too familiar with the local stores in the Albany or Corvallis area, but Albany does have some of the best gun shows in the state. Hopefully some locals can chime in on current prices, and the best shops to visit.

This Californian is not going to tilt the local economy. My father was born in Dillard and there is a number of long lost cousins around Medford, Roseburg and Eugene with whom I'll probably become acquainted.

So far it looks like I need to stock up on a couple years' supply of primers. I intend to join the Albany gun club and enjoy their fine range.

I've always heard good things about the Albany range. They're also having a machine gun shoot on May 14th and 15th, if you're in town by then.

If you drive 20 miles up Interstate 5 to Salem, Wholesale Sportsman (one of the old Sportsmans Warehouse stores) has comparable prices to your club, and no sales tax.

The Albany Rifle and Pistol Club is a good club. I normally shoot there at least once a month in the SASS matches.

Hope this helps.

ReloaderFred,

Wholesale Sportsman is a chain? I don't see primers listed on their web site and only two brands of powders. Where do you pick up your components?

When the Sportsmans Warehouse chain went into bankruptcy, the Canadian firm invested approximately $80 million dollars into the company. When the bankruptcy was over, they ended up with all the Washington stores and all but one of the Oregon stores. Sportsmans Warehouse kept the Medford store and the Reno, NV store, and most of the rest of the chain.

Wholesale Sportsman carries the same lines that Sportsmans Warehouse carries, and about the only thing that changed was the name over the door. There are a few things where the price might be a dollar different, but they're pretty close in pricing.

The last time I was in Wholesale Sportsman they had an ample supply of both primers and powders. I've never looked at their website, so I don't know what they have listed there.

I buy my powders by the 8 pound keg, and normally by the case. If I'm in the area of either Sportsmans Warehouse or Wholesale Sportsman, I'll check to see if they have any kegs I might need, but most of my powder purchases are through Connie's Components: http://conniescomponents.com/powder.html Their prices include HazMat and there is a discount for each additional keg you purchase.

For primers, I have a friend who orders in lots of 200,000 and I get my primers from him at cost. I either cast or swage most of my bullets, with the exception of rifle bullets, which I buy. For those, I watch for sales and stock up when the price is right.

Hope this helps.

200,000??!! That's a serious purchase. Does he have a reloading business? There was a guy from one of our clubs that was my supply for a while and then moved to Oregon.

He has a firearms business on the side and supplies a bunch of the Cowboy Action shooters. He's still getting deliveries on orders he placed over a year ago. His last order of bullets was over 400,000. He still has a few of those, but he's out of primers again. Nobody wants to get caught short like they did last time. Without primers, lead is just sinkers and powder is just fertilizer..........
