"If any, the one solace that we can take from this is that these two will cause no other family to go through what we have over the past week,'' McCalla's stepson Alan Eargle said in a statement. "We are somewhat relieved, still bewildered, and just plain angry that we will never be able to understand the motive for such a heinous act.''

Truly.

And those two had had opportunity for service and honor in the 10th Mountain Division.

Vaya Con Dios MarkMc753!
God Bless his family and friends, Prayers being sent them and for the safety of all in that area.

Two U.S. Army deserters
That alone carries the death penalty, maybe this will wake up the upper brass to the seriousness that needs to be put into catching any and all deserters.

RIP Pastor, Though an atheist walks before you all I offer my condolences to the family of a man who believed in his work and seems m a good man.

:uhoh::barf::fire:

Only the good are taken from the society and may any spirit watching comend the lifeforce of this man to wherever it may be needed.

I saw this on the news and the two suspects are shown in a security camera type image, perhaps from the range or a convenience store nearby. No doubt having these images helped catch them and will place them at or near the scene of the crime at the trial.

Bullseye

RIP good sir. May justice be swift to those swine that killed a man of god.

Indeed. May the Righteous Fist of God come down on those two bastards HARD and SWIFT and be the most PAINFUL of all punishments.

RIP Brother. I will say a prayer for you and your family. It was a blessing to hear that you spent your last hours serving others. I don't know you, but I can assume this is something you did often. Thank You.

Life is short......

Life is as a vapor, it appearath for a little while and then vanisheth away.
I did not know you on this earth but we'll meet one day my brother.
God's grace is sufficient.

>May GOD bring comfort to his family. And justice to those who took his life.
amen.

I hope they caught the killers and that they're put away for a long, long time. It hurts to lose any good person from the world enough when it's natural causes, but this is horrible. :(

Desertion only carries the death penalty if they desert in the face of the enemy. If they just went extended AWOL from Fort Drum, they don't face the death penalty for that.

Can't speak for today, but when I was in the Army we were pretty serious about catching AWOLs. I was assigned to run down a couple of them when I was billeted stateside. One was easy ... I tracked down his father's unlisted number, called Daddy, and asked if he'd prefer to send sonny back under his own steam or if we should send a squad of MPs. Sonny came back.

The other one we caught in Baltimore. I grabbed him running out the back door when my partner knocked on the front door with a green Army-looking Dodge sedan parked conspicuously in front of the house.

I suspect the problem today is that there aren't enough soldiers to do the soldiering, let alone go chasing after the AWOLs.

RIP - My prayers are with him and his family.

Aguila hit the nail on the head. They definitely will not get executed because of being deserters, in fact I wouldn't doubt it if somehow they use the fact that they were in the Army to lessen their penalty. I will say an extra prayer that they get what they deserve and ride the lightning.

I always gave funny looks to people that commented negatively about the 1911 on my belt (even Maryland allows you to carry at the gun range) while at the outdoor range (none ever saw the 20rd AR magazine in my back pocket), but for the last 2 years I've been going to an indoor range as I just didn't feel comfortable shooting by myself in a secluded area.

Rachen:
I bet they'll be charged under the UCMJ for both the desertion and the murder. The disciplinary barracks at Leavenworth does not feature the brutality present in other prisons, but the prisoners conduct is much more restricted. They might even meet the hangman within 10 years.

I have to assume the guy they were staying with knew they were AWOL. I wonder how he feels now, living with the knowledge that if he'd dropped the dime a good man would not have been murdered. I sincerely hope that he is reminded of that salient fact every single day of his remaining life.

What a tragedy to a pastor, fellow gunny, and THR member.:(

R.I.P. buddy, you will be missed.

I'm glad to see that the two animals that did this to him were caught in a timely manner...I hope they are treated in prison as well as they treated our fellow brother.

This is bad news. It's hard to tell at this point, but I can certainly see a nice fellow letting two "soldiers" see his firearm. I'm glad they got the guys.

Don't let strangers handle your weapons at the range.
