WV Pastor Murdered at Shooting Range - One of ours MarkMc753

Terrible, just terrible.

Word to the wise folks.....some bad hombres might be trolling the outdoor informal ranges for free weapons. The friendly stranger might be there to do you in. The padre might have even handed this gun to the "polite soldier" after being bamboozled. Reserve your trust for those you know. Don't hand a firearm to or turn your back on a stranger at a public range unless plenty of your pals are around.

They deserted their post in a time of war, and murdered a civilian, who was a fellow U.S. citizen. I believe they should be executed by the most fitting means still available to the U.S. Army, and I don't feel that it should be a hard capital case to prove. They are deserters, they should be tried as soldiers, and they should be executed as the disgraced vermin they are, right after they are dishonorably discharged. Make sure their names go on the records with every single black mark they have earned themselves. Not that they would care.

I happen to know the Pastor that was murdered I actually saw him 2 as they saw within two hours of his death I was at the Work Camp He served Breakfast at and I was there when an officer pulled up with the bad news... We all know what has happened and I do not think the family want the murders put to death. It is sad what has happened what makes it worse is that my father is also a Pres. Minister and he was also their helping out. I praise god that they have been captured and I say let the military have them they can do more then we can.
I will get information on a place for donations if I can.

This is such a tragedy. I know there are many people praying for the family and church. It's hard to make any sense of something this heinous and cold blooded.

PS... I believe this is the second shooting death at this range.

Wow, that is crazy...RIP.

What is even weirder is that today while driving around town I was wondering if anyone had ever been robbed or murdered at a range before. This brought up another thought, although I doubt this is the thread to discuss it in. If you are at a range practicing w/ your handgun and are forced to defend yourself from an attacker, yet you don't have a carry permit, what charges, if any, could be brought against you?

My thoughts and prayers go to the family.

Those two scumbags deserve everything that will be righteously sent their way.

This is why our local shooting range has a rule:

Lock the gate behind you when you use the range.

I liked his wit. Mark's "static electricity" post in a recent .357 Mag thread was one of the finest leg-pulls I've seen. He knew a lot, and I've just learned things about him of which I'd had no idea. I'm privileged to have encountered him here.

Good bye, my friend. Peace to you, and to your family.

My wish at the moment for those two murdering deserters is that they will find peace only when their sentences are carried out.

Rest in Peace padre.

I am glad those who killed him will, God Willing, recieve their just dues.

My prayers and condolences to the family in such a hard time. I hope that they can perservere through such a painful loss.

May God give his family some peace during this sad time and in this horrific situation.

May Mark rest in peace.

I wonder what happened? I wonder if he was showing the killers his firearm? I wonder if he had a back up firearm but it was 'too late'.

God, the military and the court system will deal with the murderers. If they were AWOL - that did not mean that they had to murder anyone. The war on both sides of this issue has had enough 'killings'. I would not be shocked if they claim 'insanity' or some legal Rx drug or other 'illegal' drugs were involved.

Psalm 23 (King James Version)
Psalm 23

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

I was wrong... they admitted what they had done in murdering Mark. I read the one other newspaper article wrong. Apologies to the board.

Concealed carry and shooting at the range are two different things. I'm not sure what you're worried about.

It hurts losing one of our own, but for me the shame of two soldiers commiting such a crime stings even more.

I am sure that the Army will hand over juristiction to local LE. Unless it involves US Army property, commanders usually decline to take juristiction.

Do you think the two deserters were going to the gun range with the goal of jumping a shooter and taking his guns?

Yes. It would not be the first time.

The two soldiers involved in the famous FBI 1986 Miami shootout aquired thier weapons the same way previously. They killed at least one innocent man out target shooting. Both were prior military police in that case.

Killing people for thier weapons is appearantly an often thought of way to aquire a restricted item that requires a background check. Something many criminals and obviously AWOL soldiers could not pass.

Anyone out in a remote area should treat all who approach as potential predators. You are your only protection and you are your only witnesses. You have both an expensive item shooting, and an item in demand to a segment of the population that cannot legaly purchase them. The very segment that is often willing to use violence against others for personal gain.

How very sad.
His last post was on june 18th:

I live near a State Park with miles of awesome Mt Biking single track AND a shooting range :)

Sounds like that very same place he was killed. The state park with a shooting range.

A post about CCW while mountain biking of his:

four legged animals are not my concern... Mine are pot farmers, meth lab freaks, inbreed, squeal like a pig hillbillies and redneck fourwheelers.. For cycling weight is a huge consideration
Add US soldiers while out target shooting to that list of threats.

Very sad, but it sounds like he was the kind of guy who would be sitting up in heaven saying, LEARN FROM THIS.

Don't go shooting alone. Always be aware of people approaching you. Never hand your weapon to a person you don't know.

I wonder if this was his primary or his BUG ....

My wife has always been paranoid about me using the DNR ranges by myself. I haven't done that in a very long time. One of us (wife, son, friend, etc.) always stays by the guns when targets are being changed or is tasked with observing the area while shooting is in progress.

Such a tragic story. I wish we could learn the details some day so that we could learn. I would want it that way if it had been me. On a side note, I did see a request for donations to a hospice but I closed the window before I could copy the link.

God bless his family.
