My maternal Grandfather was in the FBI during WW2, working with Naval Intelligence. He actually got to work with some of the later Enigma machines we captured from the Germans. According to him, he had a cousin in the Pacific who was a crewman on a B-17 named "the Swoose"
On the other side of the family, my great uncle was in the Signal Corps in the Pacific. Wouldn't talk about it, except to say that the Signal Corps got it from both sides because they did their wire-laying at night and frequently in no-man's land. The GI's thought you were Japanese, and the Japanese thought you were AMerican.
