A friend of mine has three spam cans of WW2 45 ACP ammo, imported from Russia(your 1943 tax dollars at work). He thinks there are around 750 rounds/can. He is an older person and does not use the internet and is trying to sell them locally. Does this have any collector value ? What would be a fair price/can or round ? From what little I've found about this is that they are mixed headstamps mostly dated 1942. TIA !

I see one seller on gunbroker offering same at opening price of $16/50 rd box w/ no takers yet.
He warns that some will be steel cased (US did that during the war) so do be aware of that possibility. Good luck on your quest.

A few years ago I bought a case of mostly 1942 GI ammo for a low price (all brass case, don't remember what I paid for it).
I still have a bunch of it.
I chronographed it at about 750 FPS.

Funny thing is, it's about the most accurate 45 FMJ ammo I've ever shot.

I don't know anything about collector's value. I'd say $15+ a box would be a good price.

If it's marked as an EC lot then it's steel cased and corrosive. That's Chrysler Corp Evansville Indiana plant. I bought a couple of cases of this stuff two years ago for $5 a box and while it does shoot, it is corrosive, so if the weapon isn't thoroughly cleaned it will ruin the barrel. I shoot mine in a TSMG and clean well so corrosive isn't a problem. YMMV.

I'd be very happy to sell what I have left for $15 a box.

For steel cased CORROSIVE ammo id give no more than $10 a box/50 as long as no collectors value was on them.
If some lazy person bought the stuff and shot it without cleaning the gun quickly after that i dont think good things would be happening inside the barrel.
But thats just me.

That seems very very unlikely.

In 1943, Russia could barely make enough ammo for themselves, let along tool up to make .45 ACP ammo for U.S.A. export. Ever hear of the Battle of Stalingrad?

If it's 1943 steel-case .45 ACP, we made it ourselves.

I think what he meant was that the ammo is lend lease stuff. If I'm not mistaken we gave the russians some thompsons and ammo during the lend lease program.
