Violence Policy Center Launches Campaign and Website to Engage Grassroots - www.banassaultweapons.org - as Part of Growing Effort to Renew and Strengthen Federal Assault Weapons Ban
Tuesday September 30, 1:07 pm ET
Ban Will End on September 13, 2004, Without Action This Congress, Website Asks, 'President Bush, Where Do You Stand?'

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- With less than one year until the federal assault weapons ban expires, the Violence Policy Center (VPC) today launched an aggressive new campaign and companion website, www.banassaultweapons.org, aimed at renewing and strengthening the federal assault weapons ban. The website demands action by President Bush, asking, "President Bush, where do you stand?" Although the President has indicated support for renewing the ban, the White House has made no effort to ensure that it happens. The President has a long history of supporting the agenda of the pro-gun lobby. In 2000, Bush was endorsed for President by the National Rifle Association, whose current president, Kayne Robinson, vowed that the organization would have such close relations with Bush that the organization would be working out of the White House. Without action by Bush and Congress, the ban will end on September 13, 2004.

Banassaultweapons.org will engage and activate grassroots advocates and supporters through the Internet in support of an improved ban. The site supplies visitors with tools to e-mail the White House and join the VPC's campaign, including a compelling 90-second "flash" movie, "The Gun Industry's Vision of America" which supporters can pass on to their friends (the movie can be viewed at the website). The website is part of a broader campaign to educate the press, public, and policymakers of the need for the "Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003," (S. 1431 and H.R. 2038), legislation that would mandate a stronger, more effective, assault weapons ban. Today, a coalition of 86 national and state organizations signed an ad in the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call in support of the legislation.

VPC Public Policy Director Joe Sudbay states, "On many issues, President Bush has a history of all talk and no action. When it comes to renewing and strengthening the assault weapons ban, that just won't work. The White House and their friends at the NRA know that the majority of Americans support the assault weapons ban. This website will give citizens the tools to make that support clear to elected officials. The power of the Internet as another tool for public education and advocacy is clear and this website is just one component of the campaign that the VPC is conducting in support of renewing and strengthening the ban."

The Violence Policy Center is a national non-profit educational organization working to stop gun death and injury in America. For more information, visit the VPC's website at www.vpc.org.

in order to counter the increasing threat to our children
from deadly copycat drive-by fruitings,
the TRT is announcing a new web site:
bananassaultweapons.org

I love this...

For example, assault weapons with more conventional designs, such as the Ruger Mini-14, were not covered by the 1994 law—although gun experts define them as assault weapons.

First of all...:banghead:

Second...If anyone really classed a Mini-14, or even a semiautomatic AR-15, as an assault weapon, then they are in no way an "expert" on firearms. If it isn't a carbine and isn't automatic, it's not an assault weapon.

Why does anyone take these people seriously? Are they really this stupid?

Go watch the movie. Guess who is pictured with Osama Bin Laden, and various terrorists and murders?

Oleg with a rifle. I kid you not. Go look.

Although I totally disagree with the message, I have to concede the website and movie are slickly produced. Will be interesting to watch this issue unfold.

I tried to right click on the movie in an attempt to freeze the frames. Images are flashed so fast, its hard to pick them out (sumliminal level intended?) Can any THR computer geeks explain how to do this, so the movie can be desconstructed? If image was pulled from Oleg's website, perhaps a legal challenge is in order. I can't imagine a better target.

ding!

i'm gonna make a new thread to alert the troops!

I also saw at least one of Oleg's pictures there.

I can't imagine that they have permission to use it  .

(edit: Ah well, three minutes late as usual :D . )

teee.... given that his site explictly denies their use of his images:

Organizations or individuals promoting restrictions on ownership and use of firearms are prohibited from using any images from this site

I'd say he might have an actionable cause there. Anyone with legal experience care to comment? I have to admit, I find the idea of a VPC settlement buying Oleg a new EvilBlackRifle just too deliciously ironic. :D

I didn't catch any of Oleg's pictures in there; but they were flashing by pretty rapidly.

The main thing that caught my attention is where can you buy an AK (especially the high-end version pictured) for $169? Those VPC guys must know the right places to shop...

And where did they pull out the 1 on 5 LEO's killed on duty are killed with assault weapons figure?

I mean besides pulling it out of their buttocks?

And where did they pull out the 1 on 5 LEO's killed on duty are killed with assault weapons figure?

It is based on a VPC study where VPC got to define assault weapon more broadly than current federal law so that it encompassed pretty much every semi-auto longgun made.

Very slickly produced.

And Leni Riefenstahl (Hitler's favorite filmmaker; Triumph of the Will: the 1934 Nuremburg rally) had finally died this September 9th, at age 101. Somewhere in hell, she's smiling.

Her successors are very accomplished students. The Big Lie is back.

BTW, is it just me or is that a US Army serviceman with his son pictured with the likes of Osama and the Columbine killers?

:barf:

Worse than that, they classify HANDGUNS that MAY ACCEPT > 10 round mags as "AW". So unless it's a bolt rifle, pump shorgun, or revolver, it's a "AW" by VPC's count.

Scheisskopfen.:barf: :cuss: :fire: :banghead:

If they were even 1% serious, they'd advocate cracking down on criminals rather than law-abiding American citizens. I'd say they're just socialist parasites.

Bartholomew Roberts, I bet the $169 AK is either the price for police departments, or they're talking about the price of a Saiga. Lies either way.

The images are flashed very rapidly. As I got the downloadable version and clicked "back" through certian parts of this flash movie, there are several images just flashed in and out between red screens and so on. They obviously have some subliminal messages.

tcdrennen: It's scheißeköpfe, I believe. I guess anglicized, you just need to add an "e" and remove an "r."

Whole big thread here in L&P on the flash movie, tho.

Lol, did you see the picture of the pre-ban AK-47 compared to the AK-74 post-ban copy? The pre-ban is a .22 plinker that just vaguely looks like an AK, not even a real AK. :p

anti-gun sites NEVER have open discussions

It's a shame they don't have a forum
Well, you don't want to open things up for honest discussion. They have to protect their lies from the press release:
The White House and their friends at the NRA know that the majority of Americans support the assault weapons ban. This website will give citizens the tools to make that support clear to elected officials.
