I imagine being in the middle of the ocean, that Hawaii has some nasty winds too.
We do lol. Some days Ive been afraid a big gust would roll my truck off the mountain. Its more a hazard for walking as its plenty strong enough to knock you off balance, or blow you clean over if your not paying attention.....then you fall on A'a lava and bleed.......
Its usually fairly predictable up high tho, down lower or like you said shooting over a gulch or ridge and youll get some really odd wind deflection sometimes, but they USUALLY arnt as strong.

Definitely will be following this one. I'll experience it vicariously through you, the barrel life has my wallet running for the hills, but maybe I can coax it back based on your results.

Given that we are discussing my favorite the 7mm, I put together your photo listing the bullets for my records and anyone else. I like to have such things.

...I think the new noslers was really envisioned as point and click 3-400yd death ray.
120 mono at almost 4k, or a 140 mono at 3550 pretty snazy....or if you dont need the extra penetration than a 120balistic tip, or 140sst......

I wanted it to drive the heavies tho.

Like the heavies, too.

What would the copper fouling be like from a Barnes at 4K...?

Yikes!

Just use the grass skirts on the girls as tell-tales.

:D

Old time archery guy told me to use the beards on goats, or the mane hair on feral sheep crosses.....
I honestly dont know if he was messing with me, but he made some impressive shots with his old roller bow.

Thats way easier to understand.

Probably the inverse of the barrel life lol.
I dont have any monos, or I might see what they would do. Id guess for a couple shots it wouldnt be bad.....since barrel life IS so short, maybe moly bullets would be worthwhile. I've never experimented with them, but they seem to be either love or hate, with users loving and smiths hating.

Ha I have some 220 swift loaded with 55gr moly's pushing just shy of 4k. Once you get that fast, its such a different world! The ol M77 takes em like a champ. We have some Wile E.C.s getting awful brave that im thinking need to meet Mr Swift. I swear they were just in the edge of the woods the last couple nights.

As @horsey300 would say" 'splode em!"

Mine are getting into packs bold up here we'll be splodin em in the next couple weeks.

That's what I was afraid of

I'm impressed with the 6.5-300 Weatherby ballistic twin of the 26 Nosler.

I guess I will rebarrel my 7mm rem mag when the time comes with something else
If it's just for hunting it could still last a lifetime, but were I the fun in that.

It does hurt me some seeing a burnt out carbon wrapped barrel, think of I ever get one is get something that will last 3500+ rounds. Guess if I had money it wouldn't be so bad,

Well carbons run 700-900, and last shilen stainless cost me 550......and the carbon SHOULD theoretically last a scoosh longer.

BUT just playing with numbers the 7mm should be able to come within 150fps of the 28 or STW, given a long enough throat.....and STILL get double the barrel life.

Im thinking the .264 should perform similarly in comparison to the 26, or 6.5-300wby.

I wonder if anyone is making a wrapped barrel with the new unicorn metal bartlin is using, it's a $200 premium over there standard ss barrels. But they are claiming double the barrel life. These new barrels may make more guys use the barrel burners.

Bartlein does carbon barrels themselves I THINK....they have some on their web page, and I read a post over at Snipers Hide, saying they had done a couple for inhouse projects. Honestly, all the Bartlein barrels I've looked at are all vendored, since they don't offer prefits (that im aware of).

I think they do some pre fits, I've seen them before mostly bench rest stuff tho. The grizzly book has some different option I'm not I believe. I think one of there gang twist barrel would be nice for a magnum running heavy, would help twisting the bullet out of the grooves with a fast twist. They can do any twist, so maybe 1-16 at the chamber and 1-8 at the muzzle.

I was wondering if a gain twist might be helpful with ware. Maybe If running a stupid long barrel, one could give it a nearly straight inch or two, then increase the twist up to max. My theory is that even as the throat and near rifling wore, there bullet would still hit straight, or straightish rifling before starting to spin up....might have a better chance of keeping alignment? Might be a dumb hypothosis, I haven't done enough research to make even a mildly edjamacated guess.

Kinda my thinking, I thing for keeping the bullet bc higher it may help to, going from zero to a few hundred thousand rpm in a instant is asking a lot out of the bullet. Ramping the speed up slower may help. After the throat wears you may start getting a jump like a wheatherby.
