Can anyone give me some starting load data for X-Treme 9mm 115GR RN bullets? I picked up a bag of 500 at the gun show yesterday but, of course, X-Treme doesn't publish load data. Note: I'm using HS-6 and these are plated rounds, decent for blowing off at the range.

I've consulted my Lyman reloading manual and am not sure where to start. I've read other places that 4.7gr is a good place to start but it sounds too light? What do you think?

I don't load plated, but 4.7gr of HS6 sounds like it would stick a bullet in your barrel. I think you're starting a little on the light side.

With Xtreme plated use starting load jacketed data as your baseline for max.

You can usually go to middle of jacketed data but that does not work out with all primer / powder / brass combinations. Work up to those load levels carefully if you wish to push every last bit out of the round.

X-Treme website is showing .355" diameter for most 9mm plated bullets and .356"/.357" for 147 gr 9mm bullets.

If your barrel is sized at .355", you may be fine using start-to-mid range jacketed load data; but if your barrel is over sized (.356"-.357"+), you may need to use mid-high range jacketed load data to produce accurate loads. So, slug your barrel and do a powder work up to identify where your accurate loads are - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7717654#post7717654

For me, with .355" diameter Rainier bullets, I need to push them near high range load data for accuracy; but with larger .3555"-.356" diameter Berry's bullets, I get accuracy even at start-to-mid range jacketed load data (I typically use lead load data for Berry's bullets sized same as lead bullets).

To confirm, using the starting jacketed data as my max would be 6.4gr for the upper end. Would you start somewhere close to 5.9gr and work up to 6.3gr?

As Walkalong posted, I would reference both lead and jacketed load data for HS-6. Even though you are using X-Treme 9mm 115 gr RN sized at .355", I would start my work up using the Ideal OAL that works for your pistol/barrel (I usually use 1.135" OAL as default for most jacketed/plated 115/124/125 gr RN) and use 6.4 gr as my start charge.

This is from Hodgdon website:
115 gr Lead RN Hodgdon HS-6 .356" OAL 1.100" Start 6.4 gr (1117 fps) 27,900 CUP - Max 6.9 gr (1170 fps) 32,200 CUP

115 gr Speer GDHP Hodgdon HS-6 .355" OAL 1.125" Start 6.7 gr (1171 fps) 26,700 CUP - Max 7.0 gr (1234 fps) 29,400 CUP
