I posted this at HS2000 talk forum, but thought I would share it with you all also.
Ok, I installed the Dons guide rod and spring lickety split. It took me days to get to the range, so monday after work I head out. I had also installed a ghost ring reart sight and kept the factory front on.
I took some WinClean 180gr, some S&B 180 gr and some Speer Lawmen Gold Dot 155 gr.
Since I had shot the Win 180gr before changing spring, I loaded them up again. Recoil was reduced approx 15% in my opinion. I have no hard testing measures other then feel. I am a bit of a wuss and am recoil sensitive, so take that for what its worth. One thing I did notice was that I was no longer hit in the head by flying brass, they just popped out to the right. I then loaded up the Speers and boy were they much hotter, crisper sound and sharper recoil. But they were more accurate after getting used to them.
The Ghost ring rear was really nice, the front sight gets acquired very quickly and is a definite improvement over the very awkward standard sights which seemed to tall and thin.
All in all, I give the rod/spring upgrade a 7. I dont think it is the end all, but it is a nice upgrade.
The ghost ring sight is a no brainer if you dislike the standard sights. Cheap and effective.
