well thanks for all the info and im letting logic make my decision for me...im getting both...just bought the xd45 and in 30 days ill get the 1911

I am going to go for the XD-45 (I think) first, for the time being. Later on (month or two) the 1911 will come on board.

Another new comer here...just throwing in my $0.02...I have shot both guns and I loved shooting both. I am a big fan of the 1911a1 because of the history behind it and the beauty of it. The big decision maker for me was the fact that the XD could hold 13+1, but as I was shopping through my local gun shop I found a 1911a1 that holds 13+1 :what: . Plus it was a Springfield also :D . Needless to say I got the 1911 and I have enjoyed it since then.

My suggestion, pick out the pros and cons for both guns and decide from there. Push comes to shove, get one and buy the other one later. Good luck on your gun purchase.

A lot of the XD vs. M1911 decision comes down to what your budget is and whether you value accuracy or magazine capacity more.

I have owned Les Baer 1911's than are guaranteed to shoot 1 1/2" groups at 50 yards but it cost $1,800+. My XD-45 is an awesome combat gun because it is reliable, can shoot 14 times, and only cost $530. However, the XD is fatter and less accurate than a higher end 1911. You'll have to weigh what you value most in a gun to make the best decision. Good luck..

PB makes a great point here...Examine your priorities. Is "bullseye" accuracy your goal, or combat accuracy over shorter distances important?
What are you willing to spend to achieve your goal? Virtually all of the major make polymer pistols on the market today, will give you a solid reliable gun. It then comes down to a matter of individual preference based on your gut.
While the Glock is not my first choice, I wouldn’t be put out if it was in my holster when a real need arrived.

Get both... sell the one you like the least later... which will be neither...

What this guy said. Except, just keep both.

You got to love the

Trigger on a 1911. XD trigger can be made good and you don't have to be a pistolsmith to keep it running or live next door to a UPS pick-up station,

Thanks,Keith

The polymer gun market is getting more crowded every year. The steel pramed pistol market continues to shrink. I'd get the 1911 first.

The XD is a very good gun but if you wait you may get to choose between the XD45 and an XD45m variations, or the 5" M&P Pro from S&W.

By now

He got the 1911 and got pissed because it would not feed JHP's sold it and got a XD or XDM like it did,

Thanks,Keith

Good advice all...that's all I have to say..I did not have a long post about virtues of either going into the (m) series because I was too dumb to read the whole thread and notice the dates. Nope did not happen ;) )

Oh no you didn't....TELL ME YOU DIDN'T! I KNOW you didn't just predict the demise of the 1911~~!!~~ :fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:

The 1911 will live forever!:banghead:

I have both...well, I just recently bought an XD and it's a 9MM but it's still an XD. I bought it simply because I have a dog that thinks she needs to be walked every day whether it's 106 degrees or raining or snowing. I work outside as well. The 1911's are my favorites but I can carry the XD and not worry about sweat or rain or having it thrown around in some evidence locker if God forbid I have to use it. So far it's been 100% reliable just like my 1911's have.

Geez, this thread is two years old. He probably made up his mind and got something by now.

Like the 1911's, it may just be too good to die:cool:
