I use a Springfield Armory XD-45 Service (4"). I am debating about buying another but in the Tactical (5") version in bi-tone. What are the pros and cons of going to the longer barrel?

The 5in barrel gives it altittle more velocity and accuracy.. and i guess better pointability.

I can only add my experience.
My most recent handgun purchase was the XD45 Tactical, and it is my favorite. Nicely accurate, and hefty enough.

Make sure you get the hi-cap rather than the 10+1 if your state permits. Obama might not let you have one soon.

I have the Tactical model, and while it's a good shooter, for what I've ended up keeping it for I'd sooner have the 4" Service model. I've relegated the pistol to my nightstand so the extra length just makes the gun seem cumbersome.

Wanna' trade slides/barrels?

Depends on what it's being used for. For concealed carry I would go with a shorter barrel. Granted, it's not necessary as many can and do conceal full size government model 1911's, but I would use the tactical model for IDPA and other such competitions because of the longer sight radius.

I bought the 4" .45 because the 5" hits the seat when I drive or sit in a chair.
