Just got a Springfield XD-45acp with the 4" barrel. Put 100 rounds of 230 gr. hardball through it with no problems and good accuracy. This is my first modern 45 auto. The previous one was a 1911 from WW I, sold long ago, and it only fed RN ammo reliably.

Questions: Will these 'new' 45 autos such as the XD reliably feed hard cast SWC ammo?

As far as target shooting goes, is there generally any benefit to using SWC bullets instead of RN bullets in 45acp?

The only SWC 45acp I've loaded was for a 45 Blackhawk conversion and they were more accurate than the RN. Don't know if that applies to a semi-auto.

I can reload as needed but thought I would ask before ordering from Missouri Bullets or starting to cast.

Mo Bullet Co makes a bullet called the IDP #4 XD for a reason.

Swc feed fine in my glock 21, but not my 30, and I've heard it's a known issue in XD's as well.

Dan-O,
Many thanks. That's exactly what I needed to know. Should have looked more closely at the Mo. bullets site. The order gets placed tomorrow.

Once the bullets arrive, the fun begins: working up a load the gun likes.

BTW, I managed to get a couple of sub 3 inch groups at 25 yards, forearms braced and slow careful aiming. I'm at best only a decent shot so the XD is capable of some fine accuracy. Gives me hope I can improve on that with good hand loads.

Been buying from them for close to 10 years. Pretty cool operation they have. It's about a 30 minute drive each way and out in the country. When I feel like getting out of the city it's a nice drive and they're good people to do business with.

As I understand it, the original XD .45 is, like many European autos, not very dependable with semiwadcutters.
But the XDm .45 is said to have been revised to accommodate SWCs.

My first Sig Sauer P220 would not function reliably with the SWCs I loaded for my 1911 so I sold it. I liked the type well enough that I bought another, but it gets roundnose.

A semiwadcutter may be more accurate than a roundnose. The original specification for the Crawford (H&G #68) SWC was that it have the same length of bearing surface as a roundnose with the lowest weight that would leave some nose to guide it into the chamber.

It will certainly cut a cleaner, visually larger hole in the target.

If you want a light load the bullseye target shooters use
3.5 grains of Bullseye powder with a 200 grain bullet. You
might have to buy a lighter recoil spring but you might not.
Very accurate load.

Zeke, I appreciate the suggested light load. If it works and is accurate in my XD that would be great. Lighter recoil would also make it more comfortable for my wife, who is tiny. She is a great shot with her Ruger MkII and CZ 75b. This would add a caliber to her shooting.
