Anybody shoot lead through their XD's?
I know they say Glocks don't like lead...
haven't heard anything about anybody shooting lead in their XD's
Thanks for your input.

i have shot approx. 100rds of swc and lead ball though mine, then I shot a few rds of fmj through it and it blew out the little bit of lead that was in the barrel, i closly monitered it and after a few fmj rds there was no lead to be found. then I just cleaned it like normal. So I plan to keep using lead, i have about 1500 of swc and lead ball to shoot up.

I've shot about 600 rounds of 180gr lead swc with out any probelm or FTF. I ordered 2K 180gr bullets and fixing to get some more.

Yeah it has something to do with the way the barells are formed, I don't know i have had explained to me before but don't quite remeber, my dad called khar and they said they discourage the use of lead as well. i was looking in my sa xd manual and it says nothing about it, it says to use good clean ammo, which i take to mean not rusted and corroded ammo with probally factor specs. But no matter what kind of pistol it is best to keep the fps bellow 1000, if not that will cause fouling in even weapons made to shoot lead. I see no reason not to use lead in the xd

I believe it has to do with whether or not the barrel has polygonal rifling. All GLOCKs do, post-November '94 HK USPs do, I don't know if the XD does or not. Apparently lead accumulates very quickly in polygonally-rifled barrels, quickly enough that it is a safety concern (too much lead fouling - over-pressure - kaboom!). With conventional land-and-groove rifling it is much less of a concern.

I learned this the hard way (in a manner of speaking - no catastrophe, just a lot of tedious scrubbing) firing what I now believe were unjacketed lead bullets from my USP9 early in my shooting career. It took an inordinate amount of elbow grease to get the fouling out of the barrel. Having learned that, I've only shot FMJ and JHP through that pistol (and the GLOCKs I've acquired subsequently) and had no problems.

A cursory look at Springfield's site did not reveal whether the XD's barrel rifling was polygonal or conventional. I'd recommend determining that before proceeding. Also, undoubtedly those more experienced than I will be along soon to advise. Stay safe and best wishes! :)

My XD40 got the regular land and groove barrel. Apples and Oranges as XD to Glock in barrel term.
With FMJ so damn cheap, I don't even bother shooting lead from any of my guns, unless if it's a 22.
