I've heard a lot of praise from XD & CZ owners but when asked
which you have on your bedisde, its something else.. mostly a 1911 or a
wheel gun. Why is that?

I have my CZ 75B 9mm Luger as the nightstand gun.
it's got a full mag of Double Tap 147 gr. Gold dots +P (1,135FPS)

FWIW - working on the reliability of my 1911 and the
625 .45 ACP needs a part ordered.

I wouldn't want to light off my 686P .357 Mag inside.

One of my customers had a story about a gal he knew was armed with a .357 mag, discharged in in a hall way and blew out both ear drums.

My .40 XDm will suit me just fine. I shouldnt need the 17 rounds but have them if the situation calls for it.

Until recently I had a CZ RAMI in 9mm with two mags in the night stand. Now I'm covered with a Ruger SP101 and soon my very first Glock - probably the 27.

CZ or XD. . .don't think you can go wrong!

XD9 with XML light mounted by the bed as I type.
PM9 on the desk here at the computer along with all my other EDC items, cell phone, knife, wallet, mag carrier, flashlight, leatherman, inkpens, holster, loose change and cash.

The CZ SP01 is around here somewhere, which could easily be used for HD with its factory night sights, and the use of a light. Either the XD or CZ would be a great choice.

i keep my xd 40 right by the bed all the time! it is what i have confidence in and what i practice with the most! and if some one breaks in it is what i want in my hand!i keep my phone and knife prety close too

For a bedside gun, if you have to use it, you're probably going to be A) Suddenly woken up, B) A little "cloudy" mentally, and C) in a bit of a panic. Because of this I think it's a good idea to have whatever you are most familiar with near by.

This might explain the 1911s and DA revolvers. People either have a lot of experience with them, or they are simple to operate by design.

I am a revolver man because I want to avoid compressed springs. An HD gun may rest in the drawer for some time and I want everything to be at rest until I pull the trigger. Having said that, my backup is a Mossberg 590 because if I have to go through six rounds to defend my home, a scatter gun seems like the next step. When all else fails, I grab the Springfield XD40 subcompact as a means of getting my family out of the house. As I list them here I feel paranoid. I actually have a back-up to my back-up.

Heavy

RAMI with standard pressure 124 gr Gold Dots, Sure Fire light.
However a XD and light combo would serve you well indeed.

I was impressed with the XD-M that I handled.
Hear that the 45 is now out.

xd 40 with weapon light attatched and spare mag close by,870 close by as well, can't go wrong with either chioce, both go bang when the trigger is pulled.

Right now my nightstand gun is my CZ-75B, 15 rounds of 124gr GDHP, currently the 75 is the gun I'm the most accurate with, I do want to assign my Kimber Custom II .45 1911 to nightstand duty though, but that'll have to wait until it has proved it's reliability and accuracy

I'll be taking it on it's first range trip this weekend to see how it sights in and where it hits, I prefer the .45 for a nightstand gun, but I'm not willing to use an unfamiliar firearm as such a weapon until it's proven itself accurate and reliable

until then, the 9mm CZ I *AM* familiar with does nightstand duty

I keep a XD-9 by the bedside, only reason being is all things equal, I'd take the 15+1 rounds of 9mm over 10+1 rounds of .40S&W. Of course I have a 7.62 carbine leaned up next to the door too.

Well, if you aren't willing to put a modest number of rounds through it before you press it into service, you might be better off with the XD. The CZ is known for sometimes having issues with the ejector out of the box--I'd hate to be in a self-defense situation and have a piece of brass thrown straight back into my eye, as is kown to sometimes happen.

It's kinda like asking which is better, Toyota or Honda?

Chevrolet :neener:

I have a CZ and an XD in my nightstand.

Any personal experience with this or just hearsay? :scrutiny:

Not if they are placed correctly. :D

I used the term "is known" for a reason--if it were merely my personal experience, it wouldn't really mean much, being an "n" of one, and all.

Another thread about the same problem. This is the first reply to it:
Ejecting shells behind you, seems to be a common problem. Most guns start throwing it to the side once you break it in. After 250+ i am barely at 100 round in my CZ75/SA so i still haven't got it fixed... If the problem persists after 250 you can tune the extractor i have no idea how to but someone will let you know...

And of course, if you go to the CZ forum, there are a couple people with similar complaints.

I like the CZ75 and derivatives. They are good guns, and generally more accurate than an XD. I'd get a CZ75 before I got an XD. But the CZ isn't always perfect.

I rotate the nightstand guns because everything’s in the safe during the day. At night I’ll take out of the safe what strikes my fancy: Colt’s 1911, GP 100, 75B…
