I just picked up My 9MM XD this past thursday(right before the Hurricane we had down here in Florida by the way!), and was wondering about the frame size.
Is it a large or medium size?
I'm looking at a holster purchase right now, and am not sure about this...
It's not an expensive holster or anything, that will come down the road. It's one of those "Gunmate" models with the pouch for an extra magazine. It's for when I'm carrying it in My car, in the glove compartment.
Can't wait to take this new purchase to the range this saturday!
Thanks all! :D

I would consider the xd a medium. When you get a holster, if you plan on keeping it loaded, get one that covers the trigger. Helps prevent accidents. Mark

the XD is just a tiny bit bigger than a glock 19/23. But the frame is just big enough to make a too tight of fit.I took a leather holster for a 19 and wet molded (stretched) it to fit. most gun shops will let you bring a gun in to fit a holster, cased and unloaded!!!! Good choice on your purchase and good shooting.

By the way, this is the one I'm talking about...

Gunmate- Michaels of Oregon

Edit: I just went to Your American Backyard.com and looked at the Uncle Mike's version. I was going to buy a U.M's. holster locally, but they did'nt have the version I wanted. Was told I would have to use a size 15, as was mentioned in this thread.
So, it's looks to be pretty similar, they are the same company after all. Is this one better than the Gunmate version? This one's a size 15 too. I remember reading that the Gunmate one has a thumbreak, does anyone know if that's the case with this one? It looks like it does, but the site states it uses a velcro retaining strap.

that plastic tab with the snap screams thumb break. have not done a side by side between the two. make sure who you buy from had a good return poilcy if it isnt. I would consider taking it to a local gunshop and fitting holster to your gun before you buy the holster. the price will be more than online but no shipping and knowing that it fits are worth somthing. I cant see that a uncle mikes price differnce is more than a couple of bucks to a gunshop anyway.

edit to add: the velcro is to adjust the straps to fit the gun height to the holster. once set you usually never have to touch it again.
