I regularly shoot both a Glock and a XD, I voted for Glock as I prefer my Glock but for a new shooter a XD would probably be better as it has the grip safety.

My M&P outshoots my Glocks and XD hands down. I have it the least amount of time and can't speak of it's durability as compared to the other two brands.

XD

The XD is a great firearm. I had the XD9sc and it was great. It hit the target everytime I pulled the trigger. I will be getting an XDm as soon as the wallet has some extra $$$ in it.

They are all basically the same in terms of quality, accuracy, etc. Pick the one that shoots best for you. No matter which one you pick, you'll still be getting a great gun. Don't let any fanboys or detractors tell you otherwise.

I haven't shot any of them but the best for ergos was S&W. I'll have to go rent them and then make up my mind.

I had to choose between the Glock 19 and the M&P9c. The XD was eliminated in the shop because I found it too bulky for my taste.
The only negative about the Glock was its bad quality sights that would have needed upgrading adding $100 / $150 to the total cost.
The M&P ergos fit me better than the Glock's, it was cheaper and also had a S&W $50 rebate and 2 free mags at the time.

The Glock did not feel good in the shop but I rented both anyways because shooting a gun and holding it in the shop are two different things.
As far as shooting goes, I found both guns to be accurate and reliable. Both had very low recoil and were real easy and comfortable to shoot.
The Glock is slightly easier/faster to take apart then the M&P. I liked both equally and could have bought either without the slightest doubt/regret.

In the end the M&P's slightly better ergos (for me), dot sights and lower price won but you can't go wrong with either.
That's my unbiased 02... Had the Glock been cheaper and equiped with better sights I would be owning it instead of the M&P.

In reading the discussions about XD -Glock, or M&P pistols, Go to your local gunshop and try pointing a Glock at an imaginary target. The Glock in my hand is usually aimed too high and I have to almost always lower the barrel.
Pick up the XD or M&P , they point better for me and seem to line up better. Also the center trigger safety on my Glock 22 always bit my finger from the time it was new until I retired it. Glock needs to re-angle the grip and go to a different trigger safety.

The chamber loaded indicator and the cocked indicator along with the grip safety are nice,

Thanks,Keith

The Glock would win if the M&P were never built. The ergos of the M&P are just that good. I still think Glock will respond to the market with a better designed grip, grip angle and contoured frame now that shooters have felt the M&P.

The Gen III Glock will likely be a winner, but we will have to wait and see.
