Just wondering from those who own each, what my next purchase should be. I own glocks and XDs but am interested in a 24/7 pro but should I get another XD?. Is the 24/7 as good? Oh I waht a 9mm, so cal. is not a question and I have 14 glocks in all cal.s except .45 GAP so I don't want another glock.

Is the 24/7 as good a gou as the XD?

Well, if you have an XD 40 you can buy a .357 Sig barrel for it on midwayusa.com for about $185 and then a few .357 Sig mags for it and now you've got a completely different caliber gun for about $200 or so. So the XD can be two different guns for a fraction of the cost. That being the case I would go with the Taurus 24/7 because I like the premise that its built on. It seems like a very well put-together gun and when I move to Arizona I may just buy one myself. However if we were to compare both companies, Springfield and Taurus, Springfield puts a lot more work and effort into the engineering and construction of their firearms whereas Taurus doesn't. Springfield (the original armory) had U.S. war contracts for weapons. The government isn't going to do that with just any manufacturer. The M1 Garand made the Americans a force to be reckoned with in WWII as it was far superior to the Lee Enfield due to its stripper clip loading instead of bolt action firing which was far more condusive on the battlefield, and its accuracy was phenomonal. But I digress.

I'm going off on a tangent. But to answer your question, this particular time I would say go for the 24/7, you've already got an XD dude. Switch it up a little bit. Its not fun going to the range with a bunch of the same guns, just in different calibers. What makes it fun is different trigger pulls, different weights, different feels, different recoils, etc.

having owned a 24/7 they are good guns i do not like to put other gun makes down but the 24/7 is not the gun an xd is imo have you considered a walther or sig or cz if your wanting something different? the 24/7 trigger takes a little getting used to especially if your used to glock or an xd trigger btw and mags for the gun are very pricey for a entry level autoloader

I have a 24/7 Pro and like it alot but I think most people will be happier with the XD. If you do get the XD, I suggest the 45 compact 4", which I think is pick of the XD family.

I rented a 9mm 24/7 twice

When I rented it it had a DA trigger that was very smooth but now they switched to one that is SA/DA. It is actually single action on the first shot and then switches to DA only if the stricker fails to ignite the primer. They also make one that only comes in a 6 inch barel that they made for the army. The army never purchased it. It has a sand colored frame and is SA/DA but can somehow be set to fire DA or SA on the first shot.

Although I liked the feel of it and the grip shape better than glock it jammed a lot the first time I rented it. :banghead: I rented it again a month later and it worked. Because of it jamming heavily the first time I bought a CZ -75 BD 9mm form CZ U.S.A. It is all steel and has adecocker lever and can accept both 10-16 round mags. It is like a browning high power shaped gip but is DA on first shot and then it becomes SA. It is very acurate and has good frame to slide fit. It does not have a rail to attach a light. I am extreamly happy with it.:D :)

I fired someone elses XD -9mm at the range and could hit more acuratley with it than the Glock.:D :)

never fired the 24/7

liked the looks of it, but ended up buying an XD-40 service. I love it. Never misfired, shoots all kinds of ammo, and is very accurate. Now prices for the XD's are going through the roof, demand is WAY up. Find a way to try both before you buy, then decide for yourself.

I know there are a lot of Taurus fans. But over the past 12 months, I have read some long, detailed posts on many forums - they encapsulated many people's experience of dealing with Taurus's customer service. They were enough to make you bang your head against the monitor out of frustration. Many went on for months with regular updates.

After seeing the same story (essentially) happen to so many people, I would never buy another Taurus again. Apparently their service is in the negative region.

I own both in 45acp.If you think you might want to carry concealed down the road, get the 24/7.If it's just going to be a range toy,of the 2 choices you list,go with the XD.As a side note,if you're just looking for a range toy, find a Tanfoglio Witness Elite Match.Of the three,my Elite Match is by far the most accurate, and most fun pistol for range/target use...It's amazing how accurate the right gun can be...

Hi David

I own two XD .45acp and two Taurus 24/7 Pro .40 cal. Since you are purchasing 9mm I would go with the Taurus 24/7. The 24/7 has a nice Hi-Cap mag [17] +1 in the chamber. Both the XD and 24/7 are utterly reliable. I have to wonder about posters who manage to get a 24/7 to jam all the time, or an XD to jam a lot. Are they maintaining the gun? Do they ever clean it? Are they shooting crappy re-loads? In my personal experience with the 24/7 I have never had a failure. I had two loads that did not fire on the first strike [Winchester white box fmj] but the 24/7 offers a second strike capability, so I pulled the trigger again [no racking the slide] and bam fired on the second attempt. Get a Taurus 24/7 you will never regret it. Take care buddy!

The best to You and Yours!

Frank

Get an XD - and go play darts!

:neener:

The XD is a better gun overall IMO, and will be around a very, very long time.

I don't own a Taurus 24/7, and probably never will; but I do own a 4"
standard service model Springfield Armory XD-F in .45 ACP. Simply put,
this is an awesome weapon; easy to master, and very easy to maintain.
I like it so much that who knows, one of these days I may break down
and purchase one in 9m/m (tactical model), or .40 S&W in the 4" service
model? :uhoh: ;) :D

DavidW67,
You already have 14 Glocks and at least 1 XD, right?? If that's true why does the decision to but a pistol that's just over $300 so hard?

The Taurus 24/7 Pro line are nice guns. If you are looking for something different buy one. I know a few people who carry a 24/7 Pro and carry a Mill Pro in the same caliber as a BUG.

I have an XD-45, and PT 24/7 PROs in both .45ACP and 9x19mmP...

For the amount that the Taurus PT 24/7 PRO costs, get both the SA and the Taurus...

:)
