Grip angle is the main reason why I don't like the the Glock. The XD just seems to point so much more naturally.

I agree completly, it seems to go right on target everytime i bring it up!

Thanks eveyone.

I am leaning towords Glock. I have shot both and held both. The felt starnge at first. My hand got used to it after a while. The XD is nice, but I have heard a few people that have had problems with the XD, but almost no one with complaints of Glocks reliability.

There is a show this weekend so I willsee what kind of deal I can get.

Thanks again everyone

I started shooting Glocks about 5 years ago. I have a G17 first gen that I use in 3 gun matches. I won an XD40 last year at one match. I tried it out, and it is sweet. There are 3 issues that I have with the XD:
(1) The grip angle is great, just the same as a 1911. But, it is different than the Glock, and I am training for speed with accuracy. I want to stay with one style of pistol.
(2) The XD seamed to be "top heavy" compared to the G17. I think the Glock is more streamline than the XD, and thus I percieve the weight of the G17 to be lower.
(3) I really don't want another caliber to contend with. If the pistol I won was a 9mm, I would have done just what I ultimately did.

I traded the XD for a G19 3rd gen. Since then I have added another G19 2nd gen to the arsenal.

I think the XD is the BEST value for someone getting into a new handgun. It comes with features and extras that no other manufacturer offer. I have suggested my soldier son and son-in-law both consider a version of the XD for their next pistol purchase, as niether one are too excited about the Glock. (Just a footnote, all 3 Glocks are equipped with XS 24/7 Big Dot Sights.)

kdubya, the great thing is that you ultimate choice of either the Glock or an XD9 will be a great one!

glock 17 vs xd9 9mm

I bough the xd9 9mm 5in tacatal and the glock 17, wish I never bough the glock the xd9 is a better shooting gun, I was thinking on the glock26 and the xd sub compact, I made up my mind the xd sub compact wins.

Way to go maybe your advice will help him get the answer to the question he asked 3 years ago.

Had a Glock 19

Have an XD45

Glock makes good guns. They just work.

The XD, to me, is the new and improved version. (Yes...many disagree)

Better ergonomics, and for me, pointability.

The two disadvantages of the XD are parts availability. (Springfield will not ship parts, Glock will. Plus there is an aftermarket replacement part for EVERYTHING on a Glock)

The XD trigger is a little spongy and then loads over a short distance. Trigger loads less on the Glock.

Those disadvantages notwithstanding I shoot the XD better so it is in my bug out bag

Both are good, I prefer the XD. Your mileage may vary.

Why not go with the glock 19... just a little smaller and seems to fit hands better. My friend had a XD I shot a few times and never really cared for but I really like my G19. I would go with the glock.(well I DID go with the glock)

I have the XD9 and the Glock 17.

The Glock feels lighter on the hand and fits better in the pants. The XD is fatter and doesn't conceal so well.

The Glock has no a short but more solid trigger pull vs the XD that has a very short creep.

The XD has a cocked indicator and a bullet in the chamber indicator. The Glock only has the bullet in the chamber indicator.

I initially thought the GLock would shoot better, but I grouped much better with the XD than the GLock in rapid fire. I guess, the trigger helped and the nose is heavier.

If I had the choice between the 2, I would choose the XD.

Glock 17 vs XD 9mm

Either will work, and both are great guns. This question on THR is sort of like asking "mayo or miracle whip"... "red or green apples"... etc.

There are endless opinions on which is better, none of which are a real deal maker/breaker to me. Just go handle them at the store, and get the one you like best.

Think of Glock like a Honda that has less safety features but proven reliable; and XD like a Hyundai with more features for the same or lower price but not as long a track record.

I have a Glock 26,27 & 23. When I picked up the Springfield XD40, dark clouds vanished from the sky. The temperature reached a perfect 72 degrees, and I'm sure I heard the singing of angels.:)

Dude...alcohol and firearms DO NOT MIX!!!!

^^Rotflmao:D I do like it better than my Glocks, but i've never had a failure of ANY kind with the Glocks or the XD

G19

I have shot both the G17 and the XD9 on many occasions. Both are fine weapons, and I haven't the time nor the inclination to go over the myriad of pros and cons that each gun has.

However, I am definitely partial to the Glock line. I, personally, own a G19, and for me it comes down to one word:

simplicity

Glocks are just that...simple. No manual safety, no bells and whistles, just a gun that shoots when you need it to shoot no matter what. The XD9 is reliable as far as i'm concerned, but I value simplicity over anything else.

If you want a gun that will never let you down, Glock is a sure bet.

Just my $0.02 ;)
