Have some extra gun money and having inherited what my kids call the "cheap gene" from my mother am always looking for the best bang for the buck.

With the XDMs being around I'm seeing brand new XDs in 9 and .40 for about $350 with extra mags. But I'm also seeing new Sig Pro's for the same price or even a little cheaper.

I'm still doing research and I understand the difference between the XDs and XDMs. I've got an XD 45 and really like it, but have limited time on it so far. Are the XDs no longer being produced with the XDMs out, hence the good prices on XDs?

I've got a 226 in 9 and a 229 in .40, I carried 228s and 229s for years, have been to the armorers school for them and are very familiar with 'em. From my research so far I think I understand the difference between the 22X series, the Pros, and the 250's and the Pro's seem to be the budget entry level platform. I have butt loads of 22X mags and although I understand the mag body for the Pros come from 229 mags they are not interchangeable.

So far I'm leaning toward the XD, but only because mags seem to be a little bit cheaper (unless there's a way to convert 229 mags that I haven't run across yet) and lightly used 229s seem to be going for only a little more than a new Sig Pro on Gunbroker.

Any insight, advice, lessons learned, or thoughts from you guys would be appreciated.

I have more than a few SIGs including a German made SP2022 that I like a lot.

Since you already have SIGs and they work for you the SP2022 may make the most sense and also being the DA/SA trigger that you are used to versus a striker fired XD unless you have a desire to get a striker fired pistol.

I am sure XDs are fine pistols though I have never owned one myself. I would be surprised if the XD series is discontinued any time soon. Last time at the LGS I glanced at some XDms and my thought was they are getting pretty pricey - not that much less than a plain Jane P226.

As always it is best to try out what you are considering and then make your choice.

Back in the spring I was looking for a more modern pistol to take over for my 80's vintage S&W 459. I rented a 229 and shot it. It shot better than my 459 and although I was very successful at keeping my shots from straying left to right I was not able to keep the groups as tight as I wanted to up and down. I kept searching and ended up buying an XDm Compact in .40 caliber. From the first round I shot the XDm better than I shot the Sig. That's just how it worked out for me.

Personally I think the XD is the biggest bang for the buck... Of course you aren't really comparing apples to apples here either in my mind.

Yes the XD is no longer being imported, the XDm is the replacement for the XD.

The SigPro is the hidden treasure of the Sig line. They usually come out of the box with better trigger pulls than the Classic P-series and are very accurate. Their prices are low, because the R&D cost were long ago covered through a French LE contract. I've found Mec-Gar magazines for the Sig line somewhat less spendy for basically the same product.

The real question you need to decide on is if you want a DA/SA trigger of a SAO trigger
