New Springf.XD Defender $300? Different XD?

It's the best bang for the buck as far as 9mm pistols go in my opinion. PAS had them for $299 earlier this year.

So is a $2500-$3000 Dan Wesson 1911 overpriced, when I can go buy a Philippine or a Ruger 1911 for less than half that? Both shoot the same ammo, same design, use the same holster.. Heck, they both are built off basically the same patent. By your logic, there is "no reason to pay the extra" $1600 for brand name alone?

First and foremost, Glock has a long standing reputation for reliability...period. Like it or not, they are the standard by which all "striker fired, tupperware quality, wonder-9's" are judged. And for good reason...they have worked very well, under any condition, with little care and maintenance, with a variety of ammo and decent magazines, since the 1980's. Doesn't a solid reputation deserve a premium? The market thinks it does...

The Glock is a different PATENTED gun than an XD or a PPQ or a CZ P10 or an M&P. There are certainly similarities, but I can buy a ton of both OEM and aftermarket parts for a Glock. I can buy reliable Glock magazines from Magpul for $15 or less. I can buy tons of different triggers, mag releases, slide locks, holsters, lights, sights, etc. The Glock platform is supported almost as well, in in some ways, better than, the 1911 platform. You don't think all that deserves a bit of a premium? Again, the market thinks it does

Cheaper guns work, but there is a reason they are cheaper...may be inferior parts that may not last past 2,000 rounds.

No I don’t hate the tool. In all fairness the market is pretty well saturated with striker fired pistols of many makes and models. Gone is the panic buying, corrections for overpriced anything from .22lr to 30 round magazines is imminent. In point of fact Wal-Mart rolled back it’s ammo prices to be competitive against local LGS.
Premiums are gone, soon everyone is gonna start cutting prices just to maintain sales. We have had one LGS that sold at MSRP +10% already go under.
Yes you pay for quality, but some of the guns I’m seeing have me scratching my head. Even some of my beloved Rugers (as I look at my LCRx and GP) couldn’t be any more different.

I have an ole XD40 4". It is one of my favourite pistols. I bet these are great guns at a great price. If only I needed another 9mm...

Same old XD. A great value at 300, but not sure why anyone would buy when the mod 2 is only slightly more and so much nicer. I got mine for 339.

This. An LGS near me has XD Mod.2 4" with the stainless slide in 9mm with two magazines for $328. The older model at $300 with one mag would only seem like a deal if you're not familiar with XD pricing.

Ahh, looks like they are OOS. They've had them at this price since December, and did have stock last week when I checked.

They are local to me but also sell via the internet. They are one of the largest stocking Springfield dealers. Likely they will have stock again on this SKU - the price is hard to predict. Sometimes XD Mod.2's are low 400s and sometimes supa cheap like this. There are always many models in super-cheap mode, but which ones they are vary. I've bought two stainless XD Mod.2's from them, a 5" 9mm and a 4" 40SW. Great guns.

Yep just gotta watch for the deals for the mod2. I check gundeals.com periodically. RKGuns has them all the time for low 300’s and even high 300’s with 5 mags. So does our large local LGS here in Columbus, Vance Outdoors

Cheapest on Gun.deals for a Mod2 is for RKGuns' $359.93 + $12.99 shipping for 372.92. The XD Defender can be had for $271.99 + $15 shipping for 286.99. The difference is $86. The Defender XD's can be had for under $300 from a few places... There's an almost $100 difference between the two... You can buy an extra mag for the XD, and still be just over $300.

That’s the point. $86 difference that turns into about a $60 difference after you buy the 2nd mag isn’t saving enough to me to buy the defender over the mod2. When you throw in you can often find the mod2 for just over $400 OTD with 5 mags even more so to me an easy decision. YMMV

Mags can be purchased for $10-$20 from what I seen. Out of stock now, but PSA regularly had them for $10 each with free shipping on 5. I never seen an XD come with 5 mags unless the rebate was involved in one way or another. I know that during the last mag rebate, PSA and some places would give you the rebate mags, range bag, and other extras upfront.

Just all depends on the person. Both guns do the same thing. They're basically the same gun with some external changes between the two. $60-$80 is a lot of money to some people, and they wouldn't be losing much by going with the regular XD.

Agree it’s all personal preference and you win either way. To me the improved grip, ergos, trigger, undercut, FO front sight are important. The 5 mag gear package still is available. Not a rebate. I’ve bought the subcompact 45 and 2 xds’ within last 2 months with this. Here is May flyer from our LGS who I think is affiliated with Sportsman’s Warehouse they have great deals on Mod2 with 5 mags. 9mm subcompact is $420

I have a police trade-in Glock 22 I bought before I tried a XD Mod.2. Trust me, I wish I had not bought the Glock.

I paid a bit more for my stainless version (with the 5 mags and bag), but this one will do the same job. To handle it you would think it's the one that costs hundreds more, not the Glock.

Stick a 357 Sig barrel in one and it's a blast (literally and figuratively). That's one advantage to the Mod.2 being directly descended from the original XD pattern - a Stormlake XD .357 barrel made for the original works just as well in the Mod.2.

I’m really more of a 9mm shooter. I was shooting a 9mm when the police were all still carrying Model 10’s.
As far as the 40S&W, I had a G23 years ago that I liked but traded away. I recall it fondly because I carried it on a week long backpacking trip where it endured constant wet from rain and my sweaty body, and still looked like new. It was a comfort, loaded with hot loaded solids, when my friend and I watched a large wolf stroll by our camp site...about 50yds away.
One thing I noticed during the last big ammo shortage, the one when 9mm was hard to even order online, impossible even.
Wal-Mart by me always had 40, and good jhp’s were but a click away.
So I’ve toyed with picking up a used 40 since then. When I saw this like new, night sight equipped Gen4 for $319,jumped on it. Glocks work for me very well

It's "Gear Up" promo that Springfield does every year for the mags and bag, but oddly enough, it only seems like Sportsman has it listed. I'm tempted to get an XDE, but I really don't need anymore guns...
