Sorry, folks -- I'm not sure how to make the nice-looking quote boxes that I'd prefer to use here, so please bear with a slightly-recycled post. Below is an edited (shortened!) version of a question I raised in another thread, which got no replies -- understandably, since it was pretty tangential! However, I'd really like to know the answer, and am not savvy enough to know where to look better than to raise the question here.

My only complaint so far about the P345: spring! ... My complaint about the P345 has nothing to do with the gun's strength (which seems outstanding to me, though I have not dropped it from a plane into a frozen cement mixer on Mars) but rather with the spring. The only other .45 auto I have is an XD-45; on disassembly, the XD's dual-concentric spring pops right out as a unit; the P345's flops around like a slinky and is a real pain to get back into the frame after cleaning the barrel.

I know that many guns are much more annoying to disassemble / reassemble for several reasons, but the P345 (which I thought was "eh, not so bad") now seems much less friendly to work with compared to the XD-45. (The XD-45 also doesn't take the lining up and pressing out of that pin through the frame, which always makes me feel my fingers are at risk on the Ruger ...)

Note: I like the P345, so no cracks about "taking it off my hands" etc -- the grips are very comfortable, and despite it being the typical top-heavy of any polymer, that's a feel that I'm not old enough to count as foreign. And I like the way it shoots -- I'm sure that after I've broken it down for cleaning a few more times I'll have a better hang of it.

So: is there a way to get an enclosed spring like on my XD for the P345? i'd happily pay a reasonable amount to save my fingers a bit ...

Thanks for any insight -

timothy

If you dont like the 12# stock spring, you would hate the 18# spring I put in mine:D Like you said, you will get used to it.
