XD Tactical or Hi-Power

I am in the market for a 9mm and wanted to get either the XD 5" Tactical or a Browing single action Hi-power. I currently own the XD 45 acp service model and the 9mm sub-compact model. Does anyone own either or both of these pistols and could help guide me in the right direction???

Which one would you choose and WHY????

I've only handled some XDs, never shot them. I have shot plenty through a Hi-Power. My vote is for the BHP. Simple, reliable, classic design that has lasted the test of time. Just my opinion.

shot an xd compact .45 on friday. I couldnt hit anything or get a feel for the trigger. For me i would pick the hi-power

The practical side of me says "If you own 2 XD's and are comfortable with them and like them that much, then get another XD in the size/caliber you prefer."

But you already own 2 XD's. And Hi Power's are cool.

I find the XD's are very accurate. I own an XD45 service and I wouldn't trade that pistol for anything. The BHP are also nice, so you cannot go wrong with whichever pistol you choose. You do have two XD's already, so you know how XDs tend to shoot.

I would love to add an XD to my wishlist, but I must say I really to love the BHP! But since you already have 2 XD's, you might as well stick to the same platform.

BHP all the way. Shots straight. No jams( untill after 1,000 rds of cheap dirty ammo and no cleaning). Nice trigger (after mag spring taken out). Has class, feels great, points nicely. Time tested and approved.

IF you get a hi-power I recommend getting rid of the mag safty spring. Trigger feels better with out it.Some have mentioned hammer bit, which can be fixed with a different hammer but i have never had it happen to me or those who have shot it so.....

Mods to my hi-power (bought used), New wider trigger (which got rid of the mag safty). 18.5 wolf spring. Nice wood grips. Next mod will be night sites.

I have both an XD and Hi Powers. If I had to give up one of them, it would be the Springfield. I really like both brands though! Go for the BHP!

No question in my mind the BHP, for multiple reasons not the least of them the accuracy. It takes very little time to get a good pattern out of the BHP's matter of fact I was more accurate with the BHP the first time I shot it than any other Semi-Auto handgun I have ever fired.

I voted the BHP, but only because you already have two XDs, and everyone knows that variety is the spice of life!

I second Dleong . . . I own both Hp's and the XD45acp, I love the HiPower with it's good looks and long history. I think you would really love the way it feels and shoots. Go fo it!!!

I've got an XD9 Tactical and several BHP's (5 I think). I voted BHP just becasue I like them, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the XD though, I shoot mine quite a bit in IDPA. The XD is just not a gun I could love, too utilitarian, the upside is they are very easy to shoot and reasonably accurate.

I have an XD 45 tactical, a BHP 9mm, and a BHP .40 and the BHP 9mm is certainly my choice. I have not shot an XD 9 so I can't make the direct comparison, but my BHPs are more comfortable to carry and shoot and easily as, if not more reliable than my XD 45. I choose the 9 over the .40 because it just feels more "right".

What's the intended purpose?

For range/target shooting, the BHP wins hands down.

But for self defense, I'd go with the XD. I'm not comfortable carrying cocked-and-locked and I prefer striker fired handguns over DA/SA for SD.

The XDs are very nice, but the Hi-Power is just on another level. The Hi-Power's slim slide and rounded surfaces throughout also help it feel much smaller than it is when carried. Hands down get the BHP.

I voted XD ...

I have an XD-45, and a Browning Pistol Mode (which isn't an HP, but has some things in common -- I really like it).

But since you have the other two XDs, if it were me buying, I'd get a 3rd to come closer to having "the whole set." You know how to break down and clean the XDs, and you (I hope!) like the feel since you already have two I find my XD to be accurate and comfortable, though with a wider grip than my Browning, and I prefer the takedown (captive springs make me smile). I also really like having a grip safety; YMMV.

That said, you're naming two very nice guns, and on a different day I could have happily voted the other way, on the grounds that variety is the spice of life, everyone should own at least one gun designed by John Moses Browning, etc.

Hi Power all the way.

Save some money up and customize it. XDs are nice, but no polymer gun I've held comes close to the ergos of the Hi Power (not even the vaunted M&P)

Tough Choice

I have a 9mm Hi Power and a .45 XD service (4'). Each is a great gun, accurate, plenty of firepower, natural pointers, good (XD) to excellent (H-P) triggers and well built from excellent designs.
I compare them to women (sexist that I am). My XD is a raven-haired brunette and my H-P is a wild redhead. I carry the H-P daily. It carries better, easier to conceal and weighs less (remember my XD is a .45).
Tough choice; do you prefer redheads, brunettes or blondes (Glocks) -- hey, every guy has had a blonde!

Get the Hi-Power

1) Single Action
2) Flat and easy to conceal in an IWB holster with forward cant.
3) Accessories
4) Proven in battle
5) Looks better

Both are reliable. Both will serve for a lifetime if you take care of them.

If the XD feels better in your hand, then get that. But, I think the Hi-Power with Herrett's grips, is a better, nicer gun.

High Power designed by John M Browning or XD designed by?
One has been used by well over 50 countries and has seen use since WW II by both Allied and Axis armies not to mention Malaysa Falklands Middle East Vietnam Africa to name a few places the P-35 has been used in combat.
Imitation is one of the sincerest forms of flattery and P-35s have been built or copied by many countries for decades.
Even though it is a good design how many countries use the XD, Croatia and who else?
Parts are available everywhere for Brownings and many gunsmiths will work on them.
As far as I know if you break a part on the XD its a factory repair only no parts available?
Advantage arms and others make a .22 conversion kit for the P-35 I am not sure if anyone makes one for the XD yet?
I vote for the pistol John M Browning designed and built as one of his last great designs prior to his passing in 1926 IIRC.
Mec-Gar makes many of the current factory mags for the P-35s both in 13 and 21 round capacity.
Just my opinion YMMV
