I've narrowed it down to these two guns for my next purchase. I'm not really needing them for anything specific.(Concealed carry, range gun, etc.) Just want one or the other. I have handled both and I've fired the PT145. (Mainly because I had one before and sold it. :banghead:) What do you all think? Should I join the legions of XD owners or go back to an old fave?

I can't tell you about the PT145, but I own both the XD9 and PT111 (9mm) and prefer the XD. In theory, the PT should be superior with its manual safety and second strike capability, but in practice, it light strikes too often to inspire confidence. The XD has a much stronger firing pin spring that really nails the primer. No failures to fire on factory ammo.

Springfield's quality control is a lot better than Taurus. Sure, your PT may be OK, or you may, like me, discover that after a few months of carry when you take it to the range, it malfunctions. Taurus did send me a new one after four months, but I need something that I can count on, even if it is more expensive, and even if the warranty might not be as good. The best warranty is one that you'll never have to use. The fact that my Taurus was out for repairs was the reason I bought the XD in the first place. I've never carried the replacement PT111 since, only the XD9.

I have both an XD (.45 GAP) and a PT (138 .380).

They are night and day. The XD is a quality weapon from a company that has good support and great attention to detail.

The PT is a Taurus. You might get a good one, you might get a lemon. Sure that can happen with any manufacturer but it happens more often with Taurus. Plus you can hit any of these boards and see the nightmares with Taurus support.

Taurus still hasn't addressed the safety problem with the PT line. If the trigger is even slightly depress and the weapon is placed on safe the weapon will still fire.

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on the XD.

Johnny-What went wrong with your Taurus?

It made a habit of light striking and going into fits of full-auto fire. The result was, when you pulled the trigger, you'd either get a click or a burp of 3 or 4 rounds.

i own 2 xd's one is a sc and i love it it shoots great, it's accurate and 100 percent reliable with every load that i have ever tested, i trust my life and others to the xd line, i say get the xd. also sa's cs is top notch and they will take care of you that is for sure and they will do it in a timely fashion.

In addition to the gun, consider the company and the customer service they provide.

Taurus is not exactly in the running for the Customer Service Quality Award.

Johnny-- Thanks everyone for your opinions. The voices of THR have spoken and decided my next gun: XD-9 Subcompact it is. I will chime back in when it is in my hands. :D
