Has anyone experimented with modifying the grip on the Springfield XDs? Whether it's stippling or reductions I'm curious. I like the pistol overall, but am not fond of the cheese grater grips.

Adding a talon style grip would defeat the purpose of trying to keep the grip around an inch thick.

You could try a piece of bicycle inner tube. It's not thick and it will smooth the grip. I use it on my kahr cw 45.

This. Sized so as to not touch the grip safety on an XDM it does wonders and adds essentially no bulk.

i don't understand Tallon grips are stickons they are not thick and they work great

Bicycle inner tube ... right up there with duct tape and sheetrock screws ...

I gotta say - the contact that inner tube is making with the grip safety would be a cause of concern for me.

It looks like it could easily wedge into the gap between the grip and safety and impede function at a critical moment.

I used to use the slip-on wrap around rubber grips on my SA XD 45 but, after shooting awhile, the rubber grip will work its way up on the grip safety and pin it down.
I've since switched to Talon grips. They're thinner than the wrap around and really calm down the grip surface. I have them on all my XD's including my XDS.

When I first got my XDs in Summer'13, I ordered one of the Pachmayr grip sleeves.

I found that it added a bit too much width to the grip (although it did feel really good in-hand), it was "sticky" enough to grab at clothing and, worst of all, it had a bad habit of migrating while I was shooting.

So I fought-on a bicycle tubing sleeve and have been very satisfied with the results. :)

Thanks for the info. I may try the bicycle tube grip. Really wanting it smoothed out professionally but I've never had a modified grip before.

Doesn't the XDS come with different grip inserts? The Springfield 45 essential has much smaller grip de sign or "talons".

You could use a glove as well. I mean I know you will most likiely won't be wear a glove all the time but maybe at least at the range you could

Talon grips are great. But, keep in mind if you shoot a lot and clean you a lot, no matter how much care you take in applying them, they will peel off. Usually, on the seam on the back.

It is not making contact, just looks that way ... and it is still in that position even though over a year has elapsed.

If you're worried about interference you either trim the wrap or postion it a bit lower.

...and hope it doesn't slide up as the rubber ages.
