I was on my way from Knoxville to points south. I frequently take a break near Chattanooga by stopping at the Sportsman's Warehouse.

10:00 AM.

I did get a Real Tree camo long sleeved Tee, a 9MM UMC Value Pack at a pretty good price, some 5.56 and 7.62.

Visited the gun counter to see if on the outside chance they had a XDs .45. (I'm used to the "you have got to be kidding me" look) Counter man went to the back and came back with a NIB XDs and said they just got two. I asked the price ($515) checked it out and said I would take it. Success. I had been trying to buy one at a reasonable price for a few months.

He said they hadn't checked them in yet and it would be around 3:00PM before they could check them in for sale. I told him I would pay for it and come back in 72 hours to pick it up. He told me their hold policy was 24 hours max. He even checked with the "manager". I was on a mission; couldn't wait and down the frustrated road I went. :fire::cuss:

I called back today (within the 24 hour period) and they were both gone. Larry the counter man, same guy I dealt with said they were both gone the same day and he wished he had a truck load.

Big box stores. You would think they would have "checked it in" and sold it.

Course as we all know, it's the hunt.

They apparently only get them in 2 at a time due to demand and/or availablity. Their warehouse is in Utah, so truck only comes Mon. or Tues.
I got one the first week they came in, about 3 mos. ago.
I don't think they have ever had one make it to the display case. All spoken for before they get there.

If you do get one, I think you will be happy with it. Mine is now my #1 carry gun.:)

I wish somewhere around here had them for that price. I can find them but I think $650 is the cheapest I've seen. I keep looking for Shields too. They go for $450-500 but no one has them.

I was impressed with the $515. Most are priced at $550 plus shipping plus transfer etc with an online purchase. Even Bud's who doesn't usually try for premium prices has the XDs jacked.

The good news, they are making more every day, and like everything else, supply will eventually meet and exceed demand.

But Dammit...I want it now. ;)

If your down near Chatt much, you should check out Benton Shooters Supply in Benton,TN. Awesome place.

I asked about the XDs and one of the associates told me that they get a few XDs' in every month, but they sell quick.

Good Luck.

Keep trying till you get one. You WON'T be sorry. I love mine! Accurate, 100% reliable, NICE trigger, EASY to conceal and recoil is surprisingly easy to handle. I just got a 7-round magazine for it with a 'sleeve' to make it conform to the shape of the grip-NICE!

Good luck on your quest!

Great minds think alike. I called Bentons this morning to see if they had one since that is sort of on my way home, at least not too much out of the way to snag an XDs. They had one, a duo tone for around $600.

I don't want pay $85 extra for the duo nor do I want one for carry. I know, now I'm getting fussy.

The few times I have dry fired on....about 3/8 inch light take up and crisp break. Couldn't get a reset feel. Felt good.

Critter, I definitely plan on doing just that!! What' the best source for XDs magazines?

The search continues.

Have you checked out grabagun.com or galleryofguns.com? If you are the kind of person who buys guns more than a couple of times a year it's really worth your while to find an FFL to do transfers for you and order your guns online. Then the world if your gunstore and you can usually find a much better price online. Even with shipping and transfer you are usually better off.

I do a few transfers a year and more often than not, do purchase on-line. We have a 9% sales tax in TN. On items around $500 or less I don't mind the sales tax, so if I can find something locally I will support a local GS.

I was actually surprised at the the BBS, Sportsman Warehouse price at $515. I was fully expecting more in the range of the MSRP.

A couple of weeks ago, Gander had a duo-tone. They were seeking $650, Benton's was 600 and IIRC even Buds who is usually low was taking advantage of the XDs scarcity with a high price on a duo-tone.

I was just in the mood for a little instant gratification. ;)
