I had my local smith put an XS "Ghost Ring" peep and matching front blade on my Marlin 94 FG .41 Magnun lever rifle.
There's no chance to shoot it until tomorrow or Monday, but it looks good.
The peep is about the size of the one on my Mossberg 590. It's adjustable and the blade front sight has a white line on it. I may paint that line orange later, it doesn't show up too well on some backgrounds.

It took me a while to decide on the XS, but it looks good. It lines up quickly when I put the rifle to my shoulder. I'm old enough so open iron sights don't work well for me past 25 yards. The peep should make the Marlin a 100 yard gun for me.

The smith was able to get a better deal on the sight than I could find myself, so with installation it cost about what buying one outright would have been. :D

Nice! I just put XS Ghost Rings on my 1894C in .357 Magnum. Should be hitting the range with it Monday, assuming the weather holds out!

We might be on the range at the same time.
I planned on doing a little shooting over the Labor Day weekend.

So how'd it go? I got them relatively close, but I am admittedly not a great shooter, and I'm not consistent enough to get them right.

I'd love to know how this works out for you guys. I came home with an old (1971) "safe queen" Marlin 336 .30-30 over the weekend and want to put a peep site on it. I just haven't decided which one yet.

HEY! Where's that report?

C'mon, ACP230 - - you've had three days now. We're hangin' around, waiting for your verdict. :p

Right after Elder Son gave me a Marlin 1895GS .45-70 for my 60th birthday, a friend gave me a set of the AO Ghost Ring sights he'd had on the shelf for a while. (Ashley Outdoors products later became XS.) I also got one of the Lever Scout scope mounts which I used with my Leupold 2.75X scope for load development. Soon as I got the load right with the Speed 400 gr JSP, I removed the scope.

I am extremely satisfied with the ghost ring setup - - It is amazingly quick, and, even with the larger aperture, I can make precise hits from the bench at 100 yards. I must admit, the forward mount scope had a certain allure, but there's just something WRONG about putting glass on an essentially short range piece. Additionally, the iron sighted, short, big bore piece is just about bulletproof, for bouncing around in a truck or strolling up and down rocky hills.

Best,
Johnny

First I had an urgent mission, trout fishing. Not much of the season left.

Then this morning it rained for several hours.

Thursday might be the day.

I guess I didn't really give an opinion in my comment. I like them, I'm just not used to them yet. Iron sights and I often don't get along, but I definitely like them more than any other irons I've used, even if I haven't quite gotten them quite zero'ed yet.
