XSE Colt's

Usually it means low profile sights, a few holes in the trigger, angled slide serrations, front slide serrations, a duckbill beavertail grip safety, extended ambi thumb safety, rosewood grips, Commander type hammer.

The XSE can be stainless or blued, Government, Commander, or LW Commander.

The main difference that I am aware of is the XSE has the usual style Colt rear dot sight, and the XS had Novak style rear sight. I think the beavertail grip safety was more upswept on the XS.

Other than that, I do not think there is much difference. The XS's came out at a time when there was a rumor that Colt was going out of business, and people were scarfing them up quickly.

Lone gunman,

I did some research and discovered there was basically a single individual downgrading the XSE series. From what I have read, both the XS and the XSE are some of the best 1911's Colt cranked out, Vedicki triggers, Novak sights, wood grips, beavertail grip safties, etc.

The XSE is supposed to be an upgrade frome the XS. You will find them outfitted in slightly different configuratins from time to time. My XSE LW Commander had Novak Type sights and a G.I. type thunb safety(it had to be fittled to work). I have heard of them coming with G.I. sights and ambi thumb safety. Watever parts they happen to have on hand at that time.
