I just picked up 500 124 grain FMJ's for $30 shipped this morning. That is a smoking deal. Some people claim that Xtreme is junk, but I've never had an issue with them. Shipping can take up to two weeks now, but that doesn't bother me either.

I've had this question for a while. I'll just ask it here since it's related, maybe?

Why does Xtreme make hollow points that are not designed to expand?

XDJ the Xtreme HP bullets are for target shooting, The design of some hollow point bullets provide greater accuracy then FMJ's if loaded right. Think about the design of a hollow point where the weight is in the rear of the bullet which provides some better stability in flight thus providing increased accuracy. They produce most of their products for competition use.

Is there a discount code
just go to their website and sign up for their mailer and they will email you their daily specials , and holiday sales, its really a neat system to sign up for , they dont send junk mail just the deal of the day ,
and sometimes the deal of the day/week is a good one for a caliber that you load for

I thought maybe some competition may have a hollowpoint class or some such thing. The weight/balamce makes some sense.

Used Xtreme bullets for quite a few years, they are out of Carson City Nevada, or at least had been. Used there jacketed bullets in mostly .38, 9mm, .40, and .45. never had a problem and definitely liked there pricing, as well as quality.

as others have stated, demand, and better accuracy. I believe that actual reason for superior accuracy is that the machine operation is less consistent where the jacket material is rolled into the core, and bullets are far more sensitive to damaged/inconsistent bases than tips. Most of the match rifle bullets are this way.

They must be in a tizzy on turn around time? I have thousands of rounds stocked up and this last order I cant get them on the phone to inquire about. She will switch me to leave a message while on hold for customer service. going on 20 day wait, no biggie.

I 1/2 weeks from ordering to my doorstep?
When you call make sure you tell them your order is with xtreme or they will look for your order under freedom munitions the call center handles all their branches , you have to tell them who your order is with I know this because once when I called they couldn't find my order utill they looked under xtreme just an experience I had

No need to be defensive about your choices. What I have from Xtreme is really first class, including packaging. I buy their lead bullets..

I have been buying their copper plated pistol bullets for range use for a couple years now. Been completely satisfied with their products. I usually have my order within 7 - 10 days except when they have a sale for multiple caliber bullets. That takes a bit more time.

I tried them because others praised them as accurate...but honestly, I probably don't shoot good enough to see the difference. They do look good.

For the same reason Hornady makes HAP bullets. They’re cheaper to make and therefore cheaper to buy for practice or competition than HPs that do expand.

Because people buy them.
Almost all plated hollow points do not expand.
But I guess we reloaders think they look cool.

Because of the design, hollow points put more of the bullet weight towards the back of the projectile. Some think this makes the bullet more accurate. Others see the HP design as more accurate by making a longer surface area contacting the rifling groves. This is the same idea behind the concave base bullet design.

higgite is correct about the Hornady HAP. Target shooters do not need expansion but can get the benefit of the HP design at a lower cost.

Most shooters/handloaders who compete and are also high volume consumers of reloading components (those individuals that shoot a box of 500 XTREMES in a week) care about accuracy first, value in bulk purchases second, their actual performance on match day third and somewhere down at the bottom of a long list of wants/needs/desires is having other competitors think that their bullets look cool.

I read info from a bullet maker claiming their plated hollow points are better for steel targets. The theory being the hollow cavity would make the bullet crush on the target rather than deflecting. I have also read that with hollow base bullets pressures are reduced due to the increase space in the cartridge. I doubt either claim has been proven accurate. Wish I could remember what bullet maker it was.

I would think that it would be the other way around and that weight on the front would make for a more accurate bullet. Like a shuttlecock, the heavy end always wants to swing around to the direction it's moving.

It is the increased length that, at least in theory, improves accuracy.
You are correct, bullets do want to swing around and go heavy end first. The spin induced by the rifling prevents it.
