Yeah Yeah, Wood on AR UPDATE

That's the thing about guns. They are machines and whether I like them personally or not, I can appreciate the design.

Wood on an AR really isn't my own cup of tea. The beauty of the design, for me, is it's utility, not esthetics. But that doesn't preclude me appreciating the workmanship that went into making that stock set.

I'd sport that in a second.

Just out of curiosity, what is preventing you from making the adjusting toggle for the rear stock out of wood ? Would be a nice place for a contrast color, like mahogany.

Speaking of the rear stock, a light curve where the "moving bits" happen would have been superior to a 90* chop both structurally and aesthetically. When and if it breaks, thats probably where its gonna happen. You've got the skillz, get 'er done.

Nice job.

RugerOldArmy: That AR looks pretty good with wood on it. I kind of like it!

It isn't mine, but I like that too. If I had an A1...

You can buy those on the Internet, as I recall. Some guy CNC's them from walnut. They're two piece triangular handguards. Linseed Oil finish.

Thanks for the link. Like the look of the walnut stocks on the AR. Also see that they make a replacement stock for the Hungarian SA85 AK.

Go for something like this:

Love the look of the AR w/ wood in this pic! I've got an RRA NM A4 I'd love to do something similar to if I could maintain the float tube.

To the OP, forend is a HUGE improvement, but does look a bit unfinished, I,'m not a big fan of a CAR style butt stock, I believe one made to take remove able spacers like the Ruger GSR would look far better. Still a worthy effort, and if it appeals to you, that's what counts.
