Yeah Yeah most won't like it.. Wood on AR

PedalBiker. it's similar to the plastic butt stock I originally purchased. I laminated the 2 walnut outside pieces over a 1/2" oak plank to set the keyway. I then bored the 1.18" hole on a buddy's metal lathe. I could have stopped with a tighter fit, but wanted to make sure the wood would not swell later and make too tight. If you want a rigid butt stock, go A2 style..

The wood hand grip I love. The "decking" around the hand guard not so much.

I suspect the strips would look a little better if they were routered out on the back so you had a thinner outer diameter. I'd also oval the crown a little more on the guard strips. And by making them so they fit down lower on the picatinny rails you'd achieve the more slender feel. And the oval shaping of the crowns would aid in the hand feeling more comfortable. In effect I'd be aiming at wood cover strips that are shaped the same as the plastic covers that are often used.

Even better would be a fore grip that starts as more of a skeletal tube where the user installs whatever picatinny rails they desire. Then make up nicely shaped wood grip rails that install in place of the picatinny rails. This way you can have both the amazing look and heat insulation of fine wood grain along with only as much picatinny utility as required.

On the shoulder stock I like your all wood replacement. But you're removing the spots to attach any sort of sling mounts easily. Perhaps a hollowed out or dished in spot with a threaded insert so you restore that ability? Another option might be the plastic stock with a nice wood U shaped comb insert/cover so the cheek weld is onto wood instead of plastic. The "added on" modular look of such a cheek pad area would fit with the look of the hand grip.

I figured out why I don't like the front handguard the last couple of days I seen a oak swing and that's what it reminds me of. I would tinker a bit with the front if I were to do know in wooden furniture, like I said tho you are the one that it has to satisfy.

Years ago around when time the M4 carbine was just coming out I remember seeing a site that sold wooden stocks front/rear for the AR and it was different looking, but looked good.

Did you miss where it's a 20" bull barrel???? Sling that around my neck???? are you crazy???? :D

Most of the responses about the front hand guard mimic my own feelings.. I am seeing me thinning it down quite a bit.. maybe either making the strips wider so they almost touch. still pondering..

Ugh, no. I've seen GOOD wood on ARs, but this is just bad. Most of the good ones were in an A2 configuration. It can be made to look classy, but this just doesn't work.

Excellent work on the stock. Like everyone else, the gen 1 handguard was not my favorite. You're far beyond my skill level in wood so I'm envious. I've always thought one of the narrow-magazine-welled 9mm ARs would be cool setup as a "Tommy Gun Tribute" pistol caliber carbine.

I think that is pretty cool. Never seen one before. If it functions as it should AND looks cool why not right?

Projects like this are exactly where new ideas come from! Keep up the good work.

As others here have stated I like the concept, especially the buttstock, but not all that crazy about the forearm design. Kind of reminds me of a park bench.
