My collection currently is only 2 hand guns, but a 3rd is being researched and I have my eye on a 4th as well.

I was looking for a small safe that can protect my guns (mostly from theft and unauthorized access).

My question is what makes a gun safe different than a basic Sentry safe if all I want to do is store handguns? Sentry makes safes that are rated up to 1800+ degrees and that are wide enough to store handguns in their boxes.

The other thing is, I will probably be moving once a year for the next 3-5 years, so I need something that is not too heavy. I'd say another over 125-150lbs is too much to carry.

Just curious if I am overlooking something obvious.

I have one of these and I like it just fine. It fits my needs perfectly. I know it's not going to stop a serious thief or whatever but it protects against unauthorized handling and if you secure it to something most crackerhead type BG's are not going to want to put the time in to get it. I am really suprised at how good it is at for this price (around $35).

I also have this one but I am not sure what I am going to do with it. Prolly going to keep my loose/extra ammo in it.

There are definitely better "safes" out there but you have to ask yourself what you reasonably expect from it and then get the one that fits the need. These two do what I need them to do.

You don't want to store pistols in a Sentry fire rated document safe.

The insulation is wet, which is why the "safe" is made mostly from plastic. This can cause humid conditions inside of the safe, which will lead to rust issues. If you look at the owner's manual for the "safe", it will also mention not storing firearms inside of it.

You should be looking at something that is just steel, with no insulation. Sentry makes those as well.
